Women’s Lax Takes Loss To The Lady Gators In Season Opener

FROSTBURG – The Lady Bobcats suffered a tough season opening loss Saturday against Allegheny College 10-9. Junior Megan Heart of Frostburg had the most points for both teams finishing the game with five. Teammate Emani Byrd finished with three points.

Juniors Emani Byrd and Megan Hart got things started for Frostburg scoring at 25:15 and just seconds after at 24:48 giving Frostburg their first lead. On a free position goal for Allegheny Senior Jackie Morrow narrowed Frostburg’s lead to one with 22:24 to go. Following a goal at 21:36 by Alexa Maloney, the Gators tied it up at 2.

Frostburg answered right back with a second goal from Byrd coming at 20:16. Four minutes later Megan Hart scored goal number two, giving them a two score lead with 6:16 to go before half. Another free position goal by Allegany’s Maloney with 1:50 before half again narrowed the lead to one as the Lady Gators refused to give up. Just before the half, Hart answered with her third goal making the score five to three with the Lady Bobcats in command.

The Lady Bobcats picked up right where they left off with Freshman Morgan Carvey scoring a goal at 27:00 and giving Frostburg their largest lead of the day. The Gators wasted no time slimming down Frostburg’s lead with goals from Morrow and Junior Shelby Piper adding two more to the board for the Gators with 25:43 remaining in the game. Allegheny continued to battle tying it up at six with another goal from Piper with 17:36 left in regulation.

Hart and Byrd didn’t let the tie last long with two more scores coming at 16:54 and 11:55 to put the Lady Bobcats up by two. Following a pair of goals by Alex Zielinski and Gusty Mead the Gators tied the score again at 8 with 7:30 remaining. An unassisted goal by Morrow gave Allegheny their first lead of the game with time ticking away in the second quarter.

Key stops by Frostburg’s Junior goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum and Freshman Jessica Hartley’s goal tied the game with less than five minutes left. However, Piper’s late goal was just enough to push Allegheny past Frostburg as the Gators walked away with the victory.

Goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum ended the game with 15 saves for the Bobcats while Kaelin Clogan of the Gators had six.

Frostburg will be on the road Sunday, March 6th, when they take on Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
