UFC 261 was a huge fight night for UFC fans and even sports fans. Three title fights in one night with all three fights ending with a knockout. The main even was Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal, which was hyped up for months since their first fight back on July 12th of 2020. Where Usman won by decision.

The first title fight was for the women’s Flyweight championship. Champion Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Andrade. Shevchenko defeated Andrade by KO in the second round in 3:19.

The second title fight was for the women’s Strawweight championship. Champion Weili Zhang vs Rose Namajunas. Namajunas defeated Zhang by KO in the first round in 1:18. Namajunas was the underdog and now the new strawweight champion.

The main vent that everybody was waiting for. Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal for the Welterweight championship. Usman defeated Masvidal by KO in the second round in 1:02. We might never see a trilogy fight but the punch from Usman knocked all the sweat off of Masvidal.

Famous social media star Jake Paul, who is not yet a 3-0 professional boxer, beats Ben Askren, a professional UFC fighter, in the first round after the referee stops the fight in the 1.59 mark.

Some people on social media believe that the fight was rigged. Posts are showing Askren taking worse punches than what Paul beat him with. They also saw Askren laughing and smiling after the fight, claiming he has gotten paid big money to sell the fight.

Following the loss, Ben Askren had a post-fight interview, and he felt embarrassed.

“I got knocked out by Jake Paul. It’s f**king embarrassing. I didn’t let the MMA community down; I let the world down. People f**king hate Jake Paul, and they wanted to see me make him miserable, and I didn’t do that. So I didn’t let the MMA community down; I let the world down.”

Askren stated that he is done with combat sports, and that he will use the money to train kids. As for Jake Paul, he went on Twitter and said “WHO SHOULD I RETIRE NEXT?.”

The biggest question is, who will Jake Paul fight next? He became a box office attraction, and fans and fighters are getting annoyed by him. One thing for fact Paul is a showman. He sells the fight well.

But one thing for Paul is that he has to fight a professional boxer next. He needs to prove he is the real deal.

The first half of the regular season, the all-star break is over, and the trade deadline has passed. Teams in the Northwest Division are looking to get in a spot in the play-in tournament, and a spot in the playoffs.

Utah Jazz

Record: 40-14

PPG: Donovan Mitchell 26.3

RPG: Rudy Gobert 13.4

APG: Mike Conley 5.4

The Jazz are having an amazing season and looking like the best team in the West. The Jazz are entering into the second half of the season with three all-stars: Mitchell, Gobert, and Conley. The bench is also giving great support. Players like Jordan Clarkson who is averaging 17.2 points off the bench without starting a game in the season so far.

This team is built to compete for a title. They have not had any serious injuries in the season.

Denver Nuggets

Record: 34-20

PPG: Nikola Jokic 26.2

RPG: Nikola Jokic 10.9

APG: Nikola Jokic 8.8

The Nuggets are on a mission this season, and that is to go to the finals. That’s why they added Aaron Gordon in the trade deadline. So far, he is looking good for the Nuggets and the team is looking great this season. Nikola Jokic is playing like a MVP and probably right now is the favorite to get it.

Jamal Murray is looking amazing this season just like how he was in last season in the bubble. Michael Porter is showing us why people said he has potential to be an all star one day. This team is still young, a title is expected soon.

Portland Trail Blazers

Record: 31-22

PPG: Damian Lillard 28.7

RPG: Enes Kanter 11.9

APG: Damian Lillard 7.6

There is one player that we all love, and his name is Damian Lillard aka “Dame Time.” He is playing like an MVP right now and I would say he is right behind Nicola “Joker” Jokic for the race. CJ McCollum had the injury bug, but he’s back and playing wonderful. They bought in Norman Powell in the trade deadline and is adjusted well for them.

This team is different than last year’s Blazers who was in the play-in spot and fought to get the 8th seed. This season they have some fresh year sitting in the 6th seed. They can still lose their spot in the playoffs because how hard the West is.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Record: 20-33

PPG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 23.7

RPG: Al Horford 6.7

APG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 5.9

OKC is a different team than what they were last season. Chris Paul”CP3″ is a player that can get a team into the playoffs because of his leadership and point guard skill. But, this season they do not have him and are more interested in building their young players.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has already shown that he is the franchise player for this team.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Record: 14-40

PPG: Karl Anthony Towns 25.0

RPG: Karl Anthony Towns 11.1

APG: Ricky Rubio

Injuries and COVID has hunted this team for the season but, their number one draft pick Anthony Edwards is showing them there is nothing to fear for the future. Right now, he is the favorite for rookie of the year. Towns was hit with COVID-protocol which made him miss most of the first half of the season. He is still playing really great. D’Angelo Russell was hindered by a knee injury which needed surgery, but he is back, and did not show any rust.

Next season, this team should be able to go to the playoffs if injuries do not hunt them like this season.

The first half of the regular season and all-star break is over, and the trade deadline has been past. Teams in the Pacific division is looking to get in a spot in the play-in tournament, and a spot in the playoffs.

Golden State Warriors

Record: 22-24

PPG: Stephen Curry 29.0

RPG: Draymond Green 6.4

APG: Draymond Green 8.4

The Warriors have been up and down during the season. Injuries on Stephen Curry, James Wiseman, and Draymond Green has hurt the team for the games that the players missed. Curry who missed most of last season because of an injured left hand which required surgery is still playing like a superstar and showing no slow.

This team can get into a playoff spot or a play in. Even doe they have their struggles they are playing well without Klay Thompson; it is showing that when Klay returns next season this team is a playoff team.

Los Angeles Lakers

Record: 30-17

PPG: Lebron James 25.4

RPG: Lebron James 7.9

APG: Lebron James 7.9

The defending champion Lakers are looking extremely good this season. But one bad thing that has been happening to this team is injuries. Anthony Davis have not played since February 14th with an Achilles injury, but his return is close. Lebron James will miss 3 to 5 weeks for a high ankle sprain.

The great news is that Andre Drummond has signed with the Lakers so that will help them with the two superstars hurt. This team will be dangerous when Lebron and AD return.

Loa Angeles Clippers

Record: 31-16

PPG: Kawhi Leonard 26.0

RPG: Ivica Zubac 7.2

APG: Paul George 5.5

This team is looking from starting lineup to bench. Kawhi and PG13 looking amazing as a duo and both defending great. Nicolas Batum is a great pickup from free agency who is defending good and playing his role really good. Losing Harrell and getting Ibaka is basically one of their best moves from the offseason. They picked up Rondo on the trade deadline from the Hawks, having Patrick Beverley and Rondo on the same team is amazing. This team are looking like contenders, but will Paul George show up when that time comes.

Sacramento Kings

Record: 21-25

PPG: De’Aaron Fox 24.8

RPG: Richaun Holmes 8.9

APG: De’Aaron Fox 7.3

The Kings are looking pretty good this season and can fight for a playoff spot or a play in spot. De’Aaron Fox is looking amazing and showing that he can be an all-star. Their starting lineup is giving him good support especially off the bench like rookie Tyrese Haliburton who is averaging 13.1 points. For a young team is like we can see that they have a future when everybody develops.

Phoenix Suns

Record: 31-14

PPG: Devin Booker 25.1

RPG: Deondre Ayton 11.0

APG: Chris Paul 8.5

This Suns are looking fantastic and is a very serious contender. Chris Paul addition was a big impact for these young players to get into the next level. They never really had this floor separation, this is why CP3 is called a “Point Guard”. Devin Booker is doing what he does best and that is getting buckets. Deondre Ayton is being a good big man but his still not in his prime which is scary.

Hope that this team stay healthy because the Suns and the Jazz are two surprising teams who currently have the 1 and 2 seed in the West.

The first half of the regular season and all-star break is over, and the trade deadline is coming soon. Teams in the Southwest division are looking to get in a spot in the play-in tournament, and a spot in the playoffs.

New Orleans Pelicans

Record: 18-24

PPG: Zion Williamson 25.6

RPG: Steven Adams 9.1

APG: Lonzo Ball 5.6

The Pelicans is targeting to get into the playoffs this season by adding Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams. But, they are struggling to get over a .500 record. The Pelicans two stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are having a good season, but the support is just not enough.

JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball has been in the rumor mill about them getting traded away before the deadline. Right now, it is up in the air whether they will stay or go. The Pelicans can still go to the playoffs, but them winning must start now.

Dallas Mavericks

Record: 21-19

PPG: Luka Doncic 28.5

RPG: Luka Doncic 8.4

APG: Luka Doncic 9.3

The Mavericks are having a surprising season, but not a good surprising. They were 43-32 last season. Doncic is looking unstoppable most games, but they still lose games that they should win. One rumor that has been going on this season is whether Kristaps Porzingis will be traded or not.

Whatever happens the Mavericks still have a chance to make the playoffs.

Memphis Grizzlies

Record: 19-20

PPG: Ja Morant 19.2

RPG: Jonas Valanciunas 12.0

APG: Ja Morant 7.4

A young and upcoming team that is having a good start for themselves. Last season’s rookie of the year Ja Morant is looking good, but not like a superstar yet. There are signs of Morant getting close to it, and Jaren Jackson has not played yet this season. Jackson is expected to make his season debut some time soon, and when he does, that can increase the Grizzlies chances to make the playoffs.

San Antonio Spurs

Record: 22-17

PPG: DeMar DeRozan 20.3

RPG: Jakob Poeltl 7.7

APG: DeMar DeRozan 7.3

Gregg Popovich is showing why he is one of the greatest coaches in sports history. Every player on this team is doing a good job at what their role is and are winning games doing so. DeMar DeRozan is not the same player he used to be on the Raptors, but he still is playing at an all-star level for the first half of the season. Dejounte Murray is playing an amazing all-around game and has potential to be the star of the team in years to come.

LaMarcus Aldridge has been in the rumor mill, and if they can trade him, they can get more young talent or just players to help achieve to be a full championship contender.

Houston Rockets

Record: 11-30

PPG: John Wall 21.0

RPG: Jae’Sean Tate 5.2

APG: John Wall 6.1

The Rockets are not looking very good this season and are sitting second worst in the Western conference. They started the season off looking really good, but after the James Harden trade everything went downhill. Injuries have been the biggest factor for them currently. Victor Oladipo, John Wall, Christian Wood, Eric Gordon, and Danuel House all missed a lot of time the first half of the season.

The Rockets might be looking to trade players like John Wall, Eric Gordon, and Victor Oladipo to receive some young players and draft picks for the future.

The first half of the regular season is over. The all-star break has started, and the trade deadline is coming soon. Teams in the Atlantic Division are looking to get in a spot in the play-in tournament spot and a spot in the playoffs.

The Atlantic Division right now has every team in the seeding for the playoffs. So, let us explain why teams in the Atlantic Division are in their spot now.

Brooklyn Nets

Record: 24-13

PPG: Kyrie Irving 27.2

RPG: DeAndre Jordan 7.5

ASP: Kyrie Irving 6.0

The Nets are having a great season with their big three of all stars Harden, Durant, Irving. Kevin Durant has been injured for the time being, but they are still winning games without his appearance. His return will make them better.

One thing they need to fix is their defense. Brooklyn is the highest scoring team, and opponents must score over 100 points against them. But, they themselves are allowing too many points, they allowed 116.1 points per game. They will need to trade and sign some more players that can play defense while also getting more help on the bench. A player like Blake Griffin can help them off the bench.

New York Knicks

Record: 19-18

PPG: Julius Randle 23.2

RPG: Julius Randle 11.1

ASP: Julius Randle 5.5

The Knicks are the most surprising team in the NBA right now and finally have a chance to be in the playoffs. Julius Randle is playing amazing this season, entering in his first all-star game. New York fans are loving their Knicks and all-star Julius Randle.

The trade for Derrick Rose was great them because Rose fits head coach Tom Thibodeau’s system and is a vet for the young talent. The bench is playing well and the starters rally around Randle. We’ll see if the Knicks can stay in the seeding.

Philadelphia 76ers

Record: 24-12

RPG: Joel Embiid 30.2

RPG: Joel Embiid 11.6

ASP: Ben Simmons 7.6

The 76ers are looking like the best team in the East right now. Joel Embiid is playing like an MVP and is currently the favorite.

The bench is playing well, so as the starting lineup around Embiid. Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, and Seth Curry a few to mention. They can still add more to the bench, but the 76ers are looking like the favorites to win the East.

Boston Celtics

Record 19-17

PPG: Jayson Tatum 24.9

RPG: Tristan Thompson 8.3

ASP: Jayson Tatum 4.5

The Celtics are struggling this season and it is surprising fans. They have two all-stars of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but they are barely winning their games.

Injuries to Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker slowed them down this season. The Celtics are hoping that Smart is ready to return for start of the second half of the season. When he returns their defense will get better, then they can be a better team. They are still a playoff team, but if they get knocked off the seeding, a question that will be asked; ‘is Brad Stevens’s job in trouble?’

Toronto Raptors

Record: 17-19

PPG: Fred VanVleet 20.1

RPG: Pascal Siakam 7.5

APG: Kyle Lowry 7.0

Another surprising team that has been struggling is the Raptors. This team just cannot catch a break right now and is barely winning their games like the Celtics.

The Raptors have 6 players averaging over 10 or more points, but the defense is just not there for them. Losing Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol took a big hit to their big positions and defensive leadership. Kyle Lowry has been in the trade rumors and might be traded in March right before the deadline. This team still has young amazing talent, but trades may come to push them to a stronger record.

The first half of the regular season is almost to its end on March 4th. The all-star break and the trade deadline is near. Teams in the Central are looking to get in a spot in the tournament seat and playoffs when it comes.

We’ve taken a look at the Southeast Division, so let us comprehend the rankings of the Central division.

Milwaukee Bucks

Record: 20-13

PPG: Giannis Antetokounmpo 28.9

RPG: Giannis Antetokounmpo 11.7

APG: Giannis Antetokounmpo 5.9

The Bucks has some issues but are stilling finding ways to win their games. Jrue Holiday is an upgrade from Eric Bledsoe, but he has been inactive lately. The Bucks defense needs some help, and Bobby Portis has been good coming off the bench averaging 11.3 points, but they need more than that to be serious contenders.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been good this season, but its not like how he was last season. Kris Middleton is shooting better this season then he did last season (2019-2020 49.7% FG, 41.5 3P% 2020-2021 50.2% FG, 43.5% 3P%). He is shooting the same number of shots he did last season, but is making more.

The Bucks will still be contenders, but will they keep repeating what happens to them in the playoffs?

Chicago Bulls

Record: 15-16

PPG: Zach LaVine 28.8

RPG: Thaddeus Young 5.8

APG: Coby White 5.2

The Bulls young squad is looking good with first time all-star Zach LaVine leading the way. Coby White, who was their 7th pick in last years NBA Draft is also looking good. This year’s rookie Patrick Williams is looking good defensively for the Bulls.

Lauri Markkanen, Otto Porter, and Wendell Carter has been hit with injuries, but with Carter back, he is playing well enough to get them to the 7th seed right now. When Lauri and Otto come back, they can help them increase in the conference.

Indiana Pacers

Record:15-15

PPG: Malcolm Brogdon 21.7

RPG Domantas Sabonis 11.7

APG: T.J. McConnell 6.6

The Pacers are fighting to stay in their playoff spot with injuries hunting them. They traded Victor Oladipo away to the Rockets for Caris LeVert, but he is out indefinitely with a kidney injury. LeVert had surgery but there is no timetable for his return. T.J. Warren is also out indefinity after having surgery to fix a stress fracture on his left foot. There is also no timetable for his return.

While injuries are hunting the Pacers, they still have Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis leading them. There are reports that they might be shopping Myles Turner. If the Pacers can hold themselves right now until Warren and LeVert come back, they can be in playoff contention. They are currently in the 4th seed which is not shocking because of how weak the Eastern conference is compared to the West.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Record 12-21

PPG: Collin Sexton 23.1

RPG: Andre Drummond 13.5

APG: Darius Garland 5.7

The Cavs are struggling right now but they show some promise from Collin Sexton and Darius Garland who are known as Sexland. The biggest news about the Cavs right now is that they are trying to trade Andre Drummond and have not made him play since February 12th to sit him out to trade him. They received Jarrett Allen from the Nets and are going for the younger center.

On paper, the Cavaliers have a young talented team. They are improving and getting more young pieces around. Isaac Okoro started all of the games so far and is looking good defensively. Kevin Love has been hurt and has only played two games, but is reported that he has started basketball activities with no timetable return.

Detroit Pistons

Record: 9-23

PPG: Jerami Grant 23.3

RPG: Mason Plumlee 9.1

APG: Delon Wright 4.9

The Pistons are rebuilding so they are not looking to get into the playoffs this year. Even if they are, it would be a miracle if they make it. They have found a star in Jerami Grant who is leading them in points. The Pistons traded Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks so right now starting is Delon Wright.

Their rookie Killian Hayes has not played since January 4th with a labral tear in his hip, and there is no timetable for his return. Detroit is also struggling to find a trade partner for Blake Griffin, so the Pistons season is not looking very good.

The first half of the regular season is all most to its end on March 4th. The all-star break is near and the trade deadline. Teams in the southeast are looking to get in a spot in the play- in tournament seat and playoffs when it comes.

The southeast division looks like the weakest division in the NBA right now. So, let us explain why teams in the Southeast Division are at their spot now.

Charlotte Hornets

Record: 13-15

PPG: Gordan Hayward 22.3

RPG: P.J. Washington 6.5

APG: LaMelo Ball 6.1

The Hornets are surprising people for the decent start they are having right now. With Gordan Hayward leading the team in scoring and Terry Rozier right behind him averaging 20.6.

LaMelo Ball is the most excellenting rookie right now in the league and is spacing the floor out on offense for the Hornets. He is right now the favorite to win rookie of the year right now with 14.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 6.1 apg. He needs to work on his shooting.

This team is young and have a lot of potential. We will see will they keep the lead in the division for the 2nd half.

Orlando Magic

Record: 10-18

PPG: Nikola Vucevic 23.7

RPG: Nikola Vucevic 11.4

APG: Cole Anthony 3.8

The Magic are not having the start of the season as they hoped for. Injuries are hurting them to be a playoff team as they were the last two seasons.

Jonathan Isaac tore his ACL last season in the bubble but is not returning this season. Markelle Fultz also tore his ACL early this season. So, they are playing without two young talented starters. Aaron Gordan has a severe left ankle sprain and will not be back until March.

The Magic are left with only Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross, and Arran Gordan will he come back. Their playoffs chances are very low right now. Possible trades might come.

Miami Heat

Record: 11-15

PPG: Bam Adebayo 19.5

RPG: Bam Adebayo 9.3

APG: Bam Adebayo 5.2

The heat is having a slow start but are coming back to form after the injuries they had.

Bam Adebayo has been carrying the load by leading the team in points, rebounds, and assist. Jimmy Butler was absent most of the time due to a case of COVID-19. The team were 6-12 but now that everybody is getting healthy, they are 11-15. The heat is not to what they were last season, but they will soon.

The big question is can Goran Dragic stay healthy?

Washington Wizards

Record: 7-17

PPG: Bradley Beal 32.9

RPG: Russell Westbrook 9.0

APG: Russell Westbrook 9.1

The Wizards have been struggling this season. Bradley Beal is leading the NBA in scoring, but the team can barley win any games. The defense is still struggling like how it always been for years.

The Wizards in the offseason picked up good additions to help Bradley Beal, with the biggest help of Russell Westbrook joining. Westbrook is putting up the numbers, but he does not look like the same Russell Westbrook.

They are missing their starting center Thomas Bryant and Russell Westbrook can barely play back-to-back games. During one point of the season almost the entire team was in COVID-19 protocol.

Right now, the Rockets are winning the trade between John Wall/Russell Westbrook. The season still young can the Wizards pull a comeback.

Altana Hawks

Record 11-15

PPG: Trae Young 26.0

RPG: Clint Capela 13.9

APG: Trae Young 9.4

The Hawks are looking to be in the playoffs this season but right now they are not looking like a playoff team right. But they are a team on the rise.

On paper the Hawks have a lot of talent but are struggling to use them. They have good young players around Trae young and veterans they can teach them like Rondo. The team already made it known that they are listening for offers for John Collins who numbers dropped compared to last season.

The Hawks are still a playoff team they just need to fix up some rotations and game plan.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, the Frostburg Bobcats men’s basketball team played away against the Fairmont State Falcons.

The Bobcats came in after Wednesday’s home game against Davis & Elkins Senators, losing 75-77. The Fairmont State Falcons came in after winning against West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Bobcats were looking to win against the Falcons, while also hoping for an Urbana lost so they could be eligible for the conference tournament.

Early in the first half, the Bobcats and Falcons were constantly going back and forth on the leader board. The Bobcats were fierce competitors and did not show fear against the Falcons. Late in the first half, the Falcons used a 14-2 run giving them an 11-point lead. Fairmont played strong defense and was able to keep the Bobcats shooting at only 41% on the field and 27% at the three. As a result, The Falcons were able to hold a 46-35 lead going into the half.

In the second half, the Bobcats came back fresh and played good defense and making the gap mere single digits, 44-48. However, the Falcons defense and scoring was too much to overcome. In the second half, FSU scored 46 points and made 49% of their shots, but Fairmont State scored 57 with 50% scoring and 42% at the three.

Though both teams achieved high scores, Frostburg fell 81-103, losing by 22 points. Senior Demetrich Williams ended the night with a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Given the loss, the Bobcats did not succeed in making it into the MEC Conference Tournament, and ended the season 10-18, 7-15 in the MEC.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Cultural Events Series presented Johnny Peers & the Muttville Comix in the Performing Arts Center with performances at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Johnny Peers leads a cast of rescue dogs through challenging and funny tricks as he plays the ringleader of the pack. Peers is a Ringling Brothers Clown College graduate and has been working with dogs since he got his first puppy, a beagle mix named Freckles from the Humane Society. Most of the dogs have been rescued from shelters and pounds.

Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix have appeared on numerous shows such as Late Night with David Letterman and Primetime Live. He has also performed at Disneyland, the Big Apple Circus and the White House. Johnny Peers’ performance in PAC was his first in Frostburg and was charitable in nature with a dollar of each ticket going to Allegany County Animal Shelter.

The show is family-friendly and had a lot of jaw-dropping moments. Peers has two dogs named Murphy and Willy whose talent of ladder-climbing amazed the audience. The dogs are highly trained and can do backflips, slide down a slide, jump rope, and more. The kids loved seeing the pups perform and laughed while having lots of fun.

The audience was also involved in the show. Peers told the audience to say “stop” and “clap” for the dogs. He also had five people, mostly kids, come onto the stage and help the dogs do some tricks.

At the end of the show, Peers had one of the dogs use a wishing well to put up a sign “The End” and the audience cheered and clapped for them. Kids had the opportunity to come on stage to take pictures with Peers and the dogs for free and could also hug and pet them.

Jonny Peers & The Muttville Comix is great for family-fun!
