Women’s Basketball Wins, Men’s Loses Against Charleston

Frostburg basketball hosted its first home game since returning from Thanksgiving break. The Women’s team kicked off the night against Charleston at 5:30 on Wednesday. The Bobcats’ took control of the first quarter after trading baskets early on in the game. The second quarter didn’t have much action but had a lot of bad basketball. The two teams scored a combined 24 points in the second quarter. The third quarter started and Frostburg held an eight-point lead, a couple of baskets were traded before FSU went on 20-4 run led by Emilee Weakley who was the number one scorer in Division II last year. Weakley had 15 points in the third quarter. Frostburg was outscored in the fourth quarter but still managed to win by 14 points. Charleston shot 3-28 from the 3-pt line, their first 3-pointer came in the third quarter. They didn’t have much luck at the free throw line or in general as the team shot just 30.9% from the field in Wednesdays game. The Lady Bobcats’ have extended their win streak to three games and now hold a 4-2 record with a 3-0 conference record. Emilee Weakley finished the game with 40 points which sits her just 11 shy of 100 in three games. She currently averages 29.7 points per game.

The men’s basketball team was looking for their first home win of the season as they hosted the Charleston Eagles’. Charleston held a 3-1 record with a 2-0 conference record.  The Bobcats’ started off the game strong leading by as much as seven at some point. However, Charleston never backed down and kept shooting. They shot 7-14 from 3pt in the first half which helped them get back into the game. The Eagles were very fast on offense, they pushed the ball up the floor very quickly after every Frostburg miss. The Eagles only had two fast break points but scored 40 in the paint and that was from transition offense and getting it up the floor. They shot 2-10 from 3pt in the second half but got 13 free throws and made ten of them. Frostburg and Charleston were tangled in a battle late in the second half and Frostburg played very badly. The Bobcats’ scored just five points in the last five minutes of the game, missed shots and bad defense ended Frostburg’s night with a loss to Charleston. Frostburg now sits at 1-7 in the Thomsen era.
