{"id":1425,"date":"2014-05-09T22:35:59","date_gmt":"2014-05-10T02:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/?p=1425"},"modified":"2014-05-10T02:17:17","modified_gmt":"2014-05-10T06:17:17","slug":"fsu-mens-lacrosse-goes-13-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/fsu-mens-lacrosse-goes-13-5\/","title":{"rendered":"FSU Men&#8217;s Lacrosse Goes 13-5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Frostburg State University (FSU) men\u2019s lacrosse team had a great season holding a\u00a013-5 record. While the team\u2019s overall record of 13-5 is impressive, their Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) record of 4-3, is just over .500.<\/p>\n<p>The team had more than a few impressive wins. Once the regular season ended, the Bobcats lost to the Salisbury Seagulls in\u00a0the semifinals of the CAC tournament. While both the regular season and CAC tournament may be over, the team still has games left to play because they have been selected as the top seed by the Eastern College Athletic Conference for the Mid-Atlantic Tournament that begins on Saturday, May 10.<\/p>\n<p>This season the players stressed how important it was for them to win the CAC tournament and while they may have come short of accomplishing their goal, they proved that the FSU\u2019s men\u2019s lacrosse team is a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n<p>In the first game of the season, the team beat DeSales University 12-3. Scores like this were a common occurrence for the Bobcats this season. The team had blowout victories against Washington &amp; Jefferson, La Roche College, and Southern Virginia. FSU dominated these teams both offensively and defensively.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Bobcats enter the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament as the top seed, which gives them a bye for the first round. The other five teams in the tournament are mostly foreign to the Bobcats besides the Marymount Saints and the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen who have claimed the sixth and fifth seeds. \u00a0\u00a0The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Region Champions, Albright College who finished with a record of 11-6 are the 2<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><sup>nd<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0seed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rounding out the five teams are the Marywood Pacers who sit in the third seed and the Stockton Ospreys who have the fourth seed. FSU\u2019s opponents for Saturday will be Stockton College who beat Lebanon Valley in a game that ended up going to overtime. Marymount went on to defeat Marywood so they will meet Albright College Saturday as well. Both the semifinals and championship games will be played at Frostburg even if the Bobcats don\u2019t advance to the championship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>None of those teams scored more than five\u00a0goals while the Bobcats scored more than 11 goals in each of those games. In two of them, the team scored 24 goals which ended up being their season high. With performances like these it should come as no\u00a0surprise that the team had more than a hand full of standout players, including Ryan Serio, Spenser Love, Chris Rios and Devin Colegrove.<\/p>\n<p>FSU Athlete of the Year, Senior Ryan Serio had a great season. He played in only 11 of the 18 games this season, but he stilled ended up leading the team in goals (36).Those 36 goals puts him sixth overall in the CAC.<\/p>\n<p>Serio was also second on the team in points (44). Serio\u2019s offensive abilities gave FSU a go to player when they needed a goal and his production is not something that the team can easily make up for next season.<\/p>\n<p>Spenser Love was another offensive juggernaut for the team this season. Love was second in goals for the team (31) and fourth in points (37). In the opening round of the CAC tournament, Love proved to be invaluable, scoring four goals\u00a0and\u00a0helping the Bobcats advance to the semi-finals of the CAC tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Rios was just as effective as his teammates, even though he did\u00a0not\u00a0score as many goals as they did (19). Rios\u00a0made plays all season, finishing\u00a0second on the team in assists (23) and third on the team in points (42).<\/p>\n<p>Last but certainly not least is Devin Colegrove. Colegrove was a bit of a jack of all trades for the team this season. \u00a0He led the team in both points (53) and assists (29) and was third in terms of goals (24). Colegrove was also named CAC player of the week for the week of March 24. Other players who played great this season are Billy Lark, who was recently named CAC player of the week, led the team in ground balls (97) and Greg Bourne who scored 21 goals this season.<\/p>\n<p>The season may have ended a bit early for this year&#8217;s FSU men\u2019s lacrosse team, but they set a precedent and built a winning\u00a0tradition \u00a0that will allow them to compete for the title for years to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Frostburg State University (FSU) men\u2019s lacrosse team had a great season holding a\u00a013-5 record.
