{"id":1725,"date":"2014-09-19T12:46:45","date_gmt":"2014-09-19T16:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/?p=1725"},"modified":"2014-09-19T12:52:36","modified_gmt":"2014-09-19T16:52:36","slug":"taking-an-extensive-view-of-the-ccit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/taking-an-extensive-view-of-the-ccit\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking an Extensive View of the CCIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two years ago, development for a new eccentric building for the Frostburg State University campus began.\u00a0 Many students were inquisitive about the progress, and specifically what the building would be all about. Others were simply tired of having to walk through all the debris of the construction. \u201cI can walk through a nice building now to go to and from class,\u201d Chenoa Zais, a senior said.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the new semester, the building was open to campus.\u00a0 A few minor details were still in the process of being completed, but the building itself was ready for the students to explore.\u00a0 As a whole, the building has four floors and several computer labs, studios and break\/study rooms. \u00a0There is a beautiful garden for display on the roof. \u00a0It also has places where students can relax and charge their phones at the same time, water fountains on every floor, and several different trash bins encouraging students to recycle. \u201cIt\u2019s big and very clean,\u201d Zachary Beck a senior, says. \u201cIt looks so technological. According to the FSU website, the building is responsible for providing students \u201cwith modern facilities that will greatly enhance their ability to learn and thrive in FSU\u2019s most technology-intensive disciplines.\u201d\u00a0 Home to the all-new center for the Mass Communication\/Communication studies department, as well as the computer science and mathematics department, the building offers several new ways for students to ease into their major and have hands on experiences with objects in their field.<\/p>\n<p>Each floor is catered to the three departments Mass Communication\/Communication studies, Computer Science and Mathematics.\u00a0 The first floor is centered towards the Computer Science department.\u00a0 It includes several different computer labs for students, as well as an IT center that helps students with technological difficulties on campus.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1770\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/taking-an-extensive-view-of-the-ccit\/sciencey-pics\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"640,480\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 5s","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1410971107","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.12","iso":"64","shutter_speed":"0.033333333333333","title":""}\" data-image-title=\"Sciencey pics\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics-300x225.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics.jpg\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1770 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Sciencey pics\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sciencey-pics.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cThe whole department manages all of the campus computers in general,\u201d Christopher Wells said. \u201cIt\u2019s essential for the help desk to be here to help people with their technology.\u201d\u00a0 The department provides service with \u201cvirus removal, internet connectivity, and support for staff with their software problems.\u201d\u00a0 Daniel Weller, a senior and staff member of the department says \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun working here.\u00a0 You have to help people solve their problems.\u201d\u00a0 Kevin Akindana also expressed that working at the IT help desk helps you to gain skills vital in everyday living. \u201cIt\u2019s a learning experience.\u00a0 It helps students to develop IT skills and also communication skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next floor houses the Mathematics department.\u00a0 It consists of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1769\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/taking-an-extensive-view-of-the-ccit\/ccit-study-room\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"640,480\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 5s","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1410971029","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.12","iso":"50","shutter_speed":"0.025","title":""}\" data-image-title=\"CCIT study room\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room-300x225.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room.jpg\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1769 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"CCIT study room\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thebottomlinenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CCIT-study-room.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>several mathematics labs and study rooms.\u00a0 Kurt Lemmert, a professor in the mathematics department, explains the department’s purpose in the building itself. \u201cWe teach people how to think clearly about mathematics and other topics that relate. We have classes every day and<br \/>\noffice hours, special review sessions, tutors, and an evening lab that\u2019s always open.\u201d \u00a0He reveals that sometimes it\u2019s frustrating to work in the department because the students don\u2019t always give their best.\u00a0 \u201cIt ranges from highly rewarding to highly frustrating, because of students either living up to their potential or not even trying.\u201d\u00a0 Ultimately, Kurt Lemmert believes the department brings something different to the building.\u00a0 \u201cThey need us somewhere,\u201d He says. \u00a0\u201cI think we\u2019re an integral part of the education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The third floor is dedicated to the Mass Communications\/Communication studies department. It features a brand new production and TV studio, as well as several labs catered to mass communications.\u00a0 David Stern is a communication studies professor in the department. \u201cCommunication studies contributes to student\u2019s confidence as speakers and communicators,\u201d he says,\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m new to working with the Mass Communications department so I can\u2019t speak much on it.
