Frostburg State Baseball Wins By Hair of The Chin Against Clarion

The Frostburg State University (FSU) Baseball team won 8-7 against Clarion University this past Wednesday, March 30th.

From the start, Clarion came out with a bang as the team brought home two runs within the top of the first inning, making it 2-0. Frostburg State countered with Clarion’s pitcher walking freshman Jacob Stretch who then stole to second. Junior Ethan Kiple then hit a double which brought Stretch home. By the end of the first, the score was 2-1 Clarion.

At the start of the third inning, Kiple came to bat again and hit a home run with three Bobcats on running home. Frostburg led 4-2 until Clarion received three singles and 2 walks to regain the lead 6-4.

Frostburg’s and Clarion’s offense did not score again until the seventh inning when Clarion hit and received a run making it 7-4. By the ninth inning, it did not look like Frostburg was going to be able to make a comeback win, but Clarion started making mistakes. Christian Shertzer walked and eventually brought home by a double hit by Trevor Jones. Then Stretch hit a single and brought another player home, now making it 7-6. They made it 8-7 when Jackson brought both Danny Estrada and Jacob Stretch home.

Frostburg is now 17-4 and has another home game on Saturday, April 2nd against Concord.
