FSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Scrooge in Rouge”

From Thursday to Sunday, December 5th to 8th, Frostburg State University’ Department of Theatre and Dance presented the holiday production of “Scrooge in Rouge”. The play is a twist on the popular Charles Dickens’ story, “A Christmas Carol”. From December 5th through the 7th, the play will begin at 7:30 p.m. December 8th the show will have a matinee at 2 p.m. The production will be held at the Lyric Theatre, located at 20 E. Main St.

The play follows the Royal Music Hall Variety Players as they prepare to put on their production of “A Christmas Carol”. Unfortunately, only three members of the cast weren’t subjected to food poisoning from a party held the night before. The cast members still try to complete their performance by playing as all of the characters in the play.

The play is fast-paced and features a lot of cross-dressing, all in the style of a British Music Hall. This play is targeted towards a mature audience as it features many outrageous songs, adult humor and puns. “Scrooge in Rouge” takes a fresh look at “A Christmas Carol” and breathes new life into it. I would recommend this play to those who love theatre. Whether you love Christmas or “A Christmas Carol”, you’ll appreciate the comedy and unique take on the holidays.

“Scrooge in Rouge” is directed by Darrell Rushton, while the book and song lyrics were created by Ricky Graham. Other composers for the program include Jeffrey Robertson, Yvette Hargis and Jefferson Turner.

Tickets were available for general admission for $15. FSU employees and senior citizens’ tickets were discounted at $12, while FSU student tickets were $7. Food and drinks were provided for purchase through Chartwells.
