UPC Cancels Halloscream Event Due to Lack of Ticket Sales

For Halloween, Frostburg State University’s Programming Council had planned a Halloween-themed dance equipped with a DJ and a costume contest for the students to enjoy the spookiest day of the year. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Halloscream dance that was to be held in the ARMAH this Saturday has been cancelled.

Students did purchase tickets, but not enough to make up for the costs associated with holding the dance. For those students who purchased tickets, refunds are available until November 5.

The security and police costs, Lane Center Fees, and student and staff hours were all large expenditures for the dance, but having only spent funds on decorations and marketing (most of which was word of mouth, posters and the decorative balloons in Lane), UPC saved more cancelling the event, only having done so with good intentions.

“We will have to do some assessments next year and see if it is something we should do,” said Robert Cooper, director of student activities and Greek life, about a possible Halloscream dance next fall.
