Women’s Lacrosse Scores 22 Goals in CAC Win
The Frostburg State women’s lacrosse team hosted CAC Southern Virginia on Tuesday, April 16. The win is the first for the Bobcats in CAC action this year and pushes their record to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Bobcats came out strong, scoring three goals within the first two minutes of the game.
Junior Molly Biggers won the opening face off, took the ball down the field, and scored her first goal within 20 seconds of the game starting. At the 24:14 mark of the first half, sophomore Stephine King scored her first goal of the day. Then, four seconds later King scored again. Sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann assisted both of King’s goals. The Bobcats led 3-0.
Southern Virginia took the ball down the field and scored twice, once at the 27:11 mark and then again at the 25:55 mark, cutting Frostburg’s lead to one. However, Kohlmann wanted part of the action, as she took the ball down the field and scored, giving the Bobcats a 4-2 advantage.
Senior Morgan Cavey scored her first goal of the game, then her teammate Biggers scored her second goal of the game not even a minute later. Sophomore Maggie Roszko handed out assist to both of those goals. The Bobcats were up 6-2.
Roszko found the back of the net for the first time along with first-year Bridget Weiss and first- year Chloee Johnson. Sophomore Summer Cavey and Kohlmann each scored two more goals in the first half. King and M. Cavey both scored, as well. Frostburg led 15-8 at halftime.
Southern Virginia came out strong early in the second half with four-straight goals to narrow the lead to 15-12 with 14:11 showing on the clock. The Bobcats did not score in the first 17 minutes of the second half.
With 13:40 left in the second half, Frostburg’s S. Cavey scored her third and final goal of the game. Between Cavey’s goal and the 5:48 mark of the second half, the Bobcats scored five more goals. M. Cavey and Biggers scored their third goals of the day, and Roszko with her second of the day. King scored twice within that time frame, giving the Bobcats a 21-12 lead.
Southern Virginia scored three more goals under the five-minute mark in the second half. King scored the last goal for the Bobcats with 3:51 left on the clock. Frostburg went to win 22-15 over Southern Virginia,
On Saturday, April 20, the Frostburg State Women’s lacrosse team hosted CAC St. Mary’s of Maryland and had senior day. Frostburg honored two seniors, Abby McClure and Morgan Cavey.
The Bobcats held their own against St. Mary’s in the first 20 minutes of the first half, only allowing seven goals for the Seahawks. Sophomores King, Kohlmann, and Roszko scored the first three goals for Frostburg. However, St. Mary’s scored three more goals before the end of the half, making the score 12-3.
In the second half of action, the Bobcats had five goals by three different players. First-year Shelby Brunett and Biggers scored their only goals of the game at the 25:17 and and 13:41 marks of the game. S. Cavey came in on the action, scoring three goals in the second half. St. Mary’s scored six goals in the second half to win the game with the final score of 18-8.
The Bobcats are now 4-12 overall and 1-4 in CAC play.
