Frostburg Football Wins on Homecoming

Frostburg State University (FSU) football remains undefeated at 7-0 for the season, snatching yet another win. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Bobcats played in their homecoming game, taking on the Southern Virginia Knights in a 61-7 blowout. The win against head coach DeLane Fitzegerald’s former team moved the Bobcats to 6-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

The Bobcats are 7-0 for the first time since beginning the 1994 season 7-0. The Bobcats picked up their 12th straight regular season win and have now won 24 of their last 26 regular-season contests.

Senior quarterback Connor Cox led a strong offensive line for the Bobcats, accounting for six touchdowns. Cox threw for five touchdowns, and another on a four-yard touchdown run. He was named the NJAC offensive player of the week for the second time this season.

The Bobcats passed the 50-point mark in their second straight home appearance. Junior wide receiver Malik Morris continued to give FSU’s offense explosive plays, bringing in two touchdown passes, along with his third 100-yard receiving performance (104 yards).

Cox threw touchdown passes to receivers Terrell Brown, Noah Teeter and Chandler Breeden, along with Morris’s touchdown catches.

Senior Jamaal Morant finished the afternoon with 58 rushing yards, and sophomore Aizsha Horne ran for 50 yards and a score. This is his second time reaching that mark in his second game carrying the ball this season.

The Bobcat defense has held opponents to seven or less points in five of their first seven games. Having the Knights scoreless midway through the first quarter, FSU held the Knights to less than ten offensive yards on 11 of 14 drives for a total of 127 yards to end the game. The Knights punted the ball eight times, fumbled twice, and threw one interception.

FSU’s defense was also able to participate in scoring when junior linebacker Wayne Palmer picked off a pass and returned it 68 yards to stretch the Bobcats lead to 28-0.

After another successful win, the Bobcats will head to Kean on Saturday, Nov. 3, with kickoff at 1:00 pm.
