FSU Bobcats Wild with Pride: 2018 Pep Rally
Last Thursday, Oct. 25, the Bobcats kicked off Homecoming Weekend 2018 with the pep rally. The gymnasium doors were opened at 7:00 pm for students to begin being seated. As you were walking in each person was handed red, white and black noise makers and a raffle ticket to be entered to win a TV or xBox. As the bleachers became full, the announcers, emcee Louis Marrero or IG @:Imsuperdope_, began to settle the crowd and began with fraternity and sorority roll call.
The Black Student Alliance [BSA] Babes and the cheerleaders performed next, showcasing the talent and skills of the students of Frostburg. The two groups began to dance together and the Bobcat mascot began to join and dance along with them, getting the crowd full of spirit. Off to the side of the stage was Frostburg’s marching band who performed between dance teams, putting on a performance full of spirit, Frostburg -ride and a great entrance for the pride and joy of Frostburg Athletics, the 2018 undefeated football team! Head Coach Fitzgerald went on stage and introduced the football seniors and was very thankful for all the student support received this season and promised to “kick some ass” at this Saturday’s game.
To continue the spirit boost, members of the homecoming committee came out to the crowd and threw free ‘Wild With Pride’ t-shirts to the audience. The emcee then drew the raffle tickets to identify the xBox and TV winners. While there were lots of disappointment in the crowd, the student who won the TV got everyone’s heart racing as he ran down the bleachers.
To follow all of the free giveaways, the Strutters performed. Their song began and they began to strut their stuff and showcase their bobcat pride. They showed up and showed off, putting on a wonderful show. Then, BSA followed in all matching in black and red formal wear and making the audience swoon with their slow moves.
With the Pep Rally coming to an end, it was time for homecoming court to be announced. Friends and family of the candidates were all on the edge of their seats as each contender announced their; name, charity, and the amount they raised to donate. Then, the emcee announced the past years’ King and Queen as well. It was finally time to know the 2018-2019 Homecoming Court Royalty. First, Queen Mahlet Tesfaye was given her crown, then King Milan Williams was crowned as well. The last announcement was Princess, as there were no candidates for prince. The princess was awarded to Nadia Khan. All candidates worked very hard for their campaign and for their charities; the most raised for underclassmen was first-year Delanie Blubaugh, $522 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and for upper class men was Ashlee Gojeski, $650 for People to People. Confetti and balloons were dropped from the catwalk and the crowd left with more spirit than they arrived with.
The Pep Rally is only one way to increase Bobcat Pride. Students can attend the games of all athletic teams or just stay up to date with the scores of the games. Although spirit isn’t only in sports, just becoming more involved in your school will allow new students to acclimate a little easier to the new life of college and upperclassmen to stay involved with the university. The Pep Rally was a great event and the school thanks the Homecoming Committee for showcasing Bobcat Pride.
