5 Finals Week Musts to Decrease Stress
Finals week can be pretty stressful. Between papers that are due and exams to study for, everything can be pretty overwhelming. Even though studying and doing your work is important, it’s even more important to take care of yourself and your health. Make sure to do these five things during finals week in order to decrease stress and maintain your health.
Get Sleep
While this may seem pretty impossible, it is completely essential. Sleeping is important for your health. If you don’t sleep, you won’t be able to focus on what you have to do anyway. Sleep when you can. Sleep is not optional ever, but especially not during finals week. You will be more focused and alert if you get enough sleep. Make sure that you get enough sleep and do not pull all-nighters. Your health is important, and you have to sleep.
Don’t Cram
Studying is important during finals week, but not during every minute of every day. Cramming is an ineffective way of studying, and it will not help you. If you try to cram every last piece of information into your brain at once, your brain will overload. You won’t be able to remember anything you studied, and it will ultimately just be a waste of time. Spread out the times when you study and what you study. This will make it easier to recall the knowledge that you’re trying to retain.
Take Breaks
This goes along with not cramming. Make sure that you take breaks while studying. Your brain needs a break every once in awhile. So, after studying for an hour or two, get up. Take a walk. Go meet some friends. Get some coffee. Watch an episode of something you’re currently binging on Netflix. Just take a break. Let your brain relax for a little bit. Don’t take too many breaks because that can disrupt your studying, but make sure to take them. It will benefit your health as well as how you retain what you study.
Don’t Forget To Eat or Drink
This one is crucial. Sometimes during finals week, people forget to eat. Eating is an important part of staying alive. It also makes it possible to study. Your brain needs fuel and that is exactly what food is. Make sure to eat anything during finals week, but healthier food is always better. Healthier food will help you focus more instead of being sluggish. No matter what, though, make sure you eat. Make sure you’re drinking water, too. Staying hydrated is important and it will help your performance while studying. This is not optional. You need to stay hydrated, and you need to eat. Don’t forget.
Relax
This is easier said than done, but relax. No matter what you have to do during finals week, it’s not a make or break situation. It’s just a test. It’s just a paper. It’s just a grade. Your grades do not define you. Your health is much more important than any grade you could get. So, don’t stress out about what you have to do. Just relax. It’s not the end of the world, no matter what you get.
Some of these may be easier than others, but they are all important. The most important thing is to take care of yourself and your health. There is nothing that is more important than you. While some of these may seem like little, insignificant things, make sure you do them anyways. You are important. Take care of yourself. If you do these five things, you will be less stressed and more ready to take on finals week.
