A Storybook Holiday
On Saturday, Dec. 7th, Frostburg State University teamed up with the city of Frostburg for yet another successful Storybook Holiday. This event takes place annually to celebrate the Christmas season. This was the 16th year in a row the event took place. Some may say Storybook Holiday really brings the holiday spirit to life. It’s almost as if Frostburg becomes the set of a traditional Hallmark movie, welcoming FSU students dressed as elves to help Frostburg children write letters to Santa, make Christmas decor at Santa’s workshop, and so much more.
From 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., families and friends could be found all over Main Street enjoying a wide variety of festivities. First thing in the morning, kids had the opportunity to have breakfast with the elves, watch the Christmas parade, or oversee the elf olympics. Then, they could make their way to a holiday book reading, a performance by the Frostburg Dance Academy, or a STEM workshop. The evening could be concluded by meeting Santa, partaking in the White Christmas Sing Along, or watching some live entertainment whilst cookie contest awards were presented.
Frostburg State Senior Allison Paul, who spent much of the day dressed as an elf on behalf of FSU’s women’s tennis team, said, “I loved being a part of Storybook Holiday because it was a wonderful opportunity to see the Frostburg city community and Frostburg State community coming together for such a great cause.”
Without a doubt, it is events like these that best implore the integration of the FSU community with the Frostburg community. Local students grow up attending events like this and are inevitably given the opportunity to be a part of it again in order to give back to the community. The importance of creating this experience has become woven into the fabric of the community at large, and it is for this reason that it is so highly valued. Not to mention, who doesn’t love a good reason to celebrate the holiday season and all the magic that comes along with it?
