The After Party: An Original Netflix Film

The Netflix film, The After Party is about an aspiring rapper named Owen, who is played by the real rapper Kyle, who really wants to do rapping as a career. His best friend, who is also his manager, Jeff, started getting connections for Owen to get a record deal by convincing Bernard, who is an intern for Rahmel. Rahmel is someone Owen wants to sign with and be a part of his record label. Owen raps for Bernard and is told if he can get an executive producer on their next album then Rahmel will be at their next performance. Owen has had four mix-tapes, music videos, and MC rap battles to launch his career as an upcoming artist, but nothing has happened. At their next performance, Bernard does not bring Rahmel but brings Wiz Khalifa instead. Owen performs on stage and starts doing really well, but towards the end of his performance he throws up on everyone in the front row including Wiz Khalifa and has  a seizure. Videos of Owen vomiting and having the seizure go viral on WorldStar and other social media platforms. He gets millions of views and gets called “Seezah Boi.”

The next day, Jeff goes to Owen’s house and finds out that he wants to go into the Marines and will be leaving that Friday. Jeff convinces Owen to give him until Friday to get him a record deal, and if he gets it, he won’t join the Army. Alicia is Owen’s love interest and Jeff’s sister, and she has been Owen’s crush  since the beginning. The only problem is that she has a boyfriend. They all get invited to a French Montana concert and suddenly cannot get in because they are not on the list. Alicia goes to a party and Owen meets up with her. Jeff gets VIP passes in exchange for his watch and convinces Alicia and Owen to go backstage. Rahmel is backstage, but Alicia and Owen want to go in the front for a better view. After the last song, they go backstage to see if Jeff can find Rahmel. As he is looking, Owen almost leaves with Alicia to go to the after party at the Dream Hotel, but he doesn’t want to leave Jeff behind. They come to find out they missed Rahmel and that he is at the after party as well. After experiencing difficulties getting into the after party, they finally get in and Owen sees Alicia, but does not interact because she’s drunk and Jeff misses Rahmel. Jeff and Owen get into a fight because they missed out on a record deal because one believes they were chasing after the wrong thing and the other believes they were not going to become a star in the first place.

Owen gets the whole party’s attention and freestyles, dissing Jeff, and then leaves. Jeff gets into a fight with a guy and his crew.  Owen comes and saves him, and they apologize to each other. He runs into Bernard and gets the address to Rahmel’s apartment. Owen freestyles on top of the car outside to see what Rahmel would say. Nothing happens, so they climb the fire escape to the window and Rahmel pepper sprays Jeff. Friday comes and Owen is off to the Marines, but Jeff gets a call from French Montana saying he wants to sign Owen. After he gets one offer, he gets multiple others and finally becomes successful in his rap career.
