Annual Block Part Kicks Off School Year
On Wednesday, September 4th, Frostburg students and community members came together to participate in the town’s annual Block Party. The event takes over most of Main Street from 6 to 10 pm with food vendors, music, student organization information tables, games, and giveaways. Students could be found competing in the 11th annual hot-pepper eating contest, advertising for their own student organization, or shopping at local businesses. FSU’s own SafeRide also offered shuttle services to and from the downtown area. Since its inception, this event always takes place at the beginning of each fall semester in an effort to welcome the Bobcats back to school in an exciting way.
The Block Party, sponsored by FSU Student Activities and the City of Frostburg Parks and Recreation Department, is a wonderful opportunity for new and returning students alike to discover more about Frostburg and all the different ways they can get involved both on or off-campus. Arin Custer, a junior at FSU majoring in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources, said, “the Block Party is a great way for students and community members to work together to provide a fun and entertaining evening for everyone involved. It is really nice to see so many people of different ages and backgrounds enjoying the same environment”. Custer currently serves as the President of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at FSU. This year at the Block Party, she presided over SHRM’s information table, offering baked goods for sale as well as an activity in which students could win a piece of candy after correctly answering a business-related quiz question.
For yet another year, the Block Party successfully offered a little something for everyone. Many great minds worked together behind the scenes and during the event to ensure a smooth-running show.
