As a student who participated in the March 2020 Sloop Leadership Institute, I can say with utmost certainty that it is a terrific way to build leadership skills and to learn and connect with other leaders from the community. It also gives those that take part in the workshop ample time to connect and meet the other student attendees. This opportunity can apply to any major, and the experience is a great way to show your future employers that you have a background in leadership- something many job descriptions ask for- and a strong ability to network with other professionals.
The following is a message from the Office of Alumni Relations and the Division of Student Affairs with further details regarding this amazing opportunity:
“Greetings from the Office of Alumni Relations and the Division of Student Affairs!
The Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership is a forward-thinking leadership development opportunity for Frostburg State University students. You will have the chance to attend a day and a half conference focused on intermediate and advanced leadership skills. There will be workshops held by experienced motivational speakers as well as a panel with distinguished alumni and small group networking meetings featuring alumni in your chosen field.
This year our program will look a little different due to COVID-19 restrictions. The students will be meeting both virtually and in person, with most of the guest speakers being live virtually. All rooms will be sanitized and meet health code requirements. We will be social distancing and wearing masks. However, most of all we will be learning and engaging in an advanced leadership initiative for a select group of FSU students. If you have any initial questions or concerns, please talk with us.
This event is being held on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27 on campus. Please click HERE to complete an application by Thursday, November 12 (EDIT: the application deadline has been extended to Friday, November 20th). We encourage sophomores and juniors to apply if you are looking for a unique experience that builds leadership skills, explores character building and networking, and shares lifelong lessons for learning and networking.
