USM Board of Regents to Vote on New Programs and Policies
The University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents will meet at the University of Maryland University College on Friday, June 27 to discuss various agendas in both public and closed sessions.
In the public session, the Board will vote on new academic programs, a sexual misconduct policy, and a capital improvement program. Frostburg State University is not listed as one of the universities proposing a new academic program. However, FSU will be affected by other items on the agenda.
According to The Board of Regents, “the current [sexual harassment and sexual assault] policies were in need of revision.”
In the Sexual Misconduct Policy Proposal, the Board stated, “Drafts have been reviewed by the USM staff, presidents, provosts, human resource officers, vice presidents of student affairs, Title IX compliance officers, university counsel, and the shared governance councils. The policy also received initial regent review at the Education Policy and Student Life meeting on June 3. Feedback from stakeholders was taken into consideration and, where appropriate, incorporated into the proposed policy. Today, the Committee of the Whole will consider the policy for adoption.”
A draft of this policy is included on the agenda’s webpage.
As a part of the capital improvement program, FSU has requested authorization to construct a new residence hall. The residence hall is listed as “Under Review” on the System Funded Construction Program Request. This request can be found under the Committee on Finance heading on the agenda’s webpage.
According to the request, “[The] FSU project will be considered for funding TBD within the five year plan, pending resolution of issues related to market/demand, contracts with existing public/private housing, and System financial constraints.” The residence hall request is on the funding calendar for the 2016 fiscal year.
More information on the residence hall plans can be found here.
The Bottom Line will provide more information on the meeting as it becomes available.
