Bobcats Cap off 2-0 Week With Dominant Win Over SUNY Oneonta

Frostburg State University (FSU) enjoyed an undefeated week of men’s lacrosse, with a 13-12 comeback victory over Eastern on Tuesday night at Johns Hopkins, and a 16-7 win over SUNY Oneonta on Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats are now 3-1 on the season.

The week featured exceptional performances from first-year midfielder Matthew Ward, junior attack Paul Ruppert, and junior goalie Jack Marks. Ruppert scored a game-high five goals in a thrilling matchup against Eastern that saw the Bobcats win on a late goal from Jimmy Lucas.

The Bobcats needed every one of Jack Marks’ career-high 19 saves to win against Eastern, in what was back and forth contest from the opening face-off. The Eagles went on a 4-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 12-11 lead with just under three minutes to play. The run featured a stretch where Eastern attack Colin Piper scored three consecutive goals. FSU’s Matthew Ward scored his third goal of the game to tie the score at 12-12 with 1:21 remaining. Junior attack Jimmy Lucas acted as the closer for FSU, scoring a clutch goal with 30 seconds left that led to the Bobcats coming away with a 13-12 victory.

The Bobcats continued their winning ways over the weekend and rolled to a dominant 16-7 win over the State University of New York College (SUNY) at Oneonta. Matthew Ward continued what has been a great start to his career, with six goals and two assists on the afternoon. The Bobcats overwhelmed the Red Dragons with a 12-3 run over the final three quarters.

Eight Bobcats found their way into the scoring column, and the team had a total of 10 assists in what was a great all-around team effort. FSU goalie Jack Marks had 12 saves in 56 minutes of play and won his second decision of the week.

The Red Dragons were led in scoring by Stephen Panno with three goals, while goalie Zachary Flynn had 16 saves.

The Bobcats are off to a solid start this season, winning three of their first four games. Next on the docket are the Shenandoah Hornets, who come come into Tuesday’s game boasting a 5-1 record. The opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
