Bobcats Drop Game Against York

The Frostburg State University (FSU) baseball team loss against CAC rival the York Spartans on Monday, April 22. First-year Jack Maruskin came in as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and stayed in at center field. Coming off the bench, he went two for two hitting, with a run included.

In the game, the Spartans scored the first points, scoring nine runs in five innings. Frostburg retaliated after junior Chris Roosevelt’s single to left field off to which classmate Mitch Fyffe then crossed home plate. The next inning, York earned two more runs to increase their lead to 10. The Bobcats soon answered with two scores of their own. Junior Quin Ambeault hit a double on which Maruskin and senior Jason Paredes scored. York scored two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to set the final score as 14-3 Spartans.

In pitching for the Bobcats, senior Chase Delost had five strikeouts and one win, senior Dan Ryczek had an earned run average of three and three strikeouts, senior Christian Rivera had an earned run average of one, four strikeouts, and one win, and junior Franco Velasquez had an earned run average of one, two strikeouts, and two wins. The batting leaders were Maruskin with two hits and one run, and sophomore Tre D’Amico, junior Ryan Roell, and first-year Worthy Hollister all with one hit. Fielding, Ambeault had 13 putouts and three assists, D’Amico and Roell both had three putouts, and Hollister had two putouts.

The Bobcats lost 6-0 to the Washington and Jefferson Presidents in a nonconference matchup.

Washington and Jefferson started hot, earning five runs in four innings. From then on, Frostburg held them defensively, but couldn’t get their offense running. There was a stalemate for the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, until the Presidents scored their final run in the eighth inning.

Against the Presidents, the pitching leaders were junior Caleb Smith with an earned run average of two, two strikeouts, and one win, sophomore Josh Clegg with an earned run average of zero, two strikeouts, and two wins, and senior Travis Brashear with an earned run average of two and one win. The batting leaders were D’Amico, Paredes, and Fyffe all with one hit. In fielding, Paredes, Fyffe, and junior Devin Griffith all had five putouts, and Roosevelt had three assists.
