Bobcats Fall to Mary Washington in Overtime Thriller
This past Tuesday, Feb. 19 , the women’s basketball team went on the road to take on the Mary Washington Eagles in the first round of the CAC Tournament. The Bobcats ended up losing 65-54 in overtime.
The Bobcats came into the tournament with a winning record of 15 wins and 9 losses. Mary Washington came in with a competitive record of 13 wins and 12 losses. The Bobcats and the Eagles were tied for fourth place in the CAC with a tie-breaker giving the Eagles the home game.
Both teams came out playing hard on defense, and for the first couple of minutes into the game, both teams were held scoreless. However, Mary Washington soon found ways to have their shots fall, and Frostburg did not score their first basket until towards the end of the quarter. Going into the half, the score was 28-17 in favor of Mary Washington.
Coming out of the half, the Bobcats looked more comfortable offensively, which resulted in them closing the gap to make it a seven-point game.
In the fourth quarter, it came down to the wire with senior guard Megan Kelly, junior forward Amanda Emory, and junior guard Victoria Diggs making big plays. Kelly put the Bobcats up three points with a three-pointer with 30 seconds left. With a couple of big plays on both sides, regulation ended with both teams at 51, sending the game into overtime.
Kelly finished with 25 points and 3 steals, Emory finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds, and Diggs also contributed with 6 points.
In overtime, the Bobcats couldn’t get any shots to land. Mary Washington finished the game with 14 to 3 rout that won them the game and will launch them to the next round of the playoffs.
The Bobcats ended their first winning season since the 2009-10 campaign with a record of 15 wins and 10 losses.
