Bobcats Season Comes To A Disappointing End
Frostburg State University men’s basketball seniors played their last game in the Bobcat uniform against Marymount after the Bobcats failed to secure a spot in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament (CAC). The Bobcats controlled their playoff faith going into the last week of the regular season, unfortunately the Bobcats failed to capitalize. The Bobcats ended the season on a 5 game losing streak that kept them from earning a ticket into the conference tournament.
The team finished the season 10-15 (6-12). The Bobcats suffered a devastating loss to the Marymount Saints 85-68. Frostburg State kept things close at half 39-35, but the Saints got hot offensively in the second half dropping 46 on the Bobcats and coming away with a 17 point victory. Freshman Tyler Michael led all Bobcats’ scorers with 17 points against the Saints. Seniors Jabari Kamau and Tyler Campbell were honored for their four years of service in the contest against the Saints. Kamau dropped 15 points, grabbed 6 boards and came away with 3 steals. The Bobcats will miss his leadership going into the 2015-2016 season. Campbell on the other hand showed the toughness that Bobcat fans have been witnessing for the past 4 years by grabbing 8 rebounds.
Frostburg State fans are left wondering what if after their men’s basketball team came just one game short of making the CAC Tournament. Going into the final two weeks of the regular season the Bobcats were hoping to finish the season in winning fashion, similar to the start of the season. The Bobcats needed just one win to grab a spot in the playoffs on the last day of the regular season. Mary Washington 7-18 (7-11) will now replace Frostburg State in the CAC Tournament as the 6th seed. Joining the 6th seeded Mary Washington Eagles will be the conference regular season champs St. Mary’s (Md.) 20-4 (16-2), conference runner up Salisbury 18-7 (14-4), number 3 seed Marymount (Va.) 19-6 (13-5), number 4 seed Chris. Newport 18-7 (13-5) and the 5th seeded Wesley Wolverines 12-13 (10-8). All six teams will battle things out to determine the 2014-2015 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Champion.
The Bobcats do have a lot to look forward to for the 2015-2016 season as they return a well-experienced team. Frostburg State University goes into the off-season loosing only one starter in Jabari Kamau. The Bobcats also have some talented freshmen that will have a year of experience under their belt. The team looks to return 8 players next season that started at least one game this season. Coach Hatch and crew will look to haul in some of the DMV best high school seniors this off-season.
