Bobcats Softball Drops Two to Catholic
The Frostburg Bobcats took on the Catholic University Cardinals this past Wednesday in a double header. The Cardinals took both games winning 7 to 5 in game one and 10 to 1 in the second.
Senior Olivia Ford helped tally the first score of the game for the Bobcats off of a Cardinal error. This would even the game at 1 a piece. In the second inning, both teams went scoreless. The Cardinals would open the third with two runs.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Bobcats would light up the scoreboard with 4 runs. First-year Erica Payne started it off with a triple then Ford brought Payne home off of a single. First-year Amber Keene, sophomore Claire Hanlon, and Ford all scored making it 5 to 3. The Bobcats would never score again.
In the next 4 innings, the Cardinals put together 4 runs that gave them the lead.
Hanlon had 3 hits and a run, Ford had 1 hit, 2 runs and 1 RBI, and sophomore Sam Carver also had 1 hit. Sophomore Emily Moll took the loss, and her record stands now at 5 win and 6 losses.
In the second game, the Cardinals would score the first run of the game in the 1st inning. In the top of the 2nd, they would go off to score 4 runs. Frostburg would score in the bottom of the second as sophomore Taylor McCarty scored Frostburg’s only score of the game.
The Cardinals would go on to score 10 runs, and the game would be called in the 5th inning. Junior Katelyn Mehrling had 1 hit, McCarty had 1 hit, and 1 run, and sophomore Kat Treff had 1 hit and 1 RBI. McCarty took the loss and her record now stands at 5 wins and 6 losses.
