Bobcats Split in Double Header with York

This weekend the Frostburg State University (FSU) Bobcats tied a double header with the York Spartans of Pennsylvania. Both teams ended up winning with a six point lead, Frostburg winning the first game, and York winning the second.

In the first game, FSU added another tally to the win column, winning 9-3. The Bobcats were the first to score in the second inning with senior Nick Fuhrmann hitting a home run to have himself and junior Ryan Roell run in for the game’s first points. In the fourth inning, the Bobcats scored again with Fuhrmann running in a single hit to center field by sophomore Tre D’Amico. York answered back in the fifth inning to make the score 3-1 Bobcats. Next, FSU’s senior Jason Paredes, junior Mitch Fyffe,  Roell, and Fuhrmann then scored to extend their lead to 7-1 at the end of the fifth inning. The Bobcats scored twice more in the seventh inning with sophomore Jared Mouton and junior Quin Ambeault running in a single by junior Devin Griffith. York scored the two points in the ninth inning.

In hitting, Roell had 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 run batted in, Fuhrmann had 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 runs batted in, Griffith had 2 hits, and 2 runs batted in, and  Fyffe had 1 hit, and 1 run. In pitching, Colby Lee had an earned run average of 1, 5 wins, and 9 strikeouts, and senior Chase Delost had an earned run average of 0, 1 win, and 3 strikeouts. In fielding, Quin had 13 putouts, and 1 assist, Griffith had 7 putouts,  Fyffe had 2 putouts, and  Mouton had 1 putout and assist.

In the second game, the York Spartans would take an early lead scoring a run in second, third, and fourth innings to make the score 3-0. FSU came back to score 5 unanswered points in the fourth inning by Fuhrmann, the fifth inning by a sophomore Bret Fogle home run, the sixth inning by a sophomore Josh Clegg home run, and a Fogle run in, and the seventh inning by a Roell home run to make the score 5-3 Frostburg. York would make a comeback of their on scoring 3 times in the eighth inning, and 4 times in the ninth inning to seal the win. The final was 11-5 Spartans.

In hitting,  Fuhrmann had 3 hits and 1 run, Clegg had 3 hits, 1 run, and 1 run batted in, Fogle had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 1 run batted in, and Fyffe had 1 run and 1 run batted in. In pitching, junior Caleb Smith had an earned run average of 3, 3 wins, and 1 strikeout, junior Mike Livingston had an earned run average of 6, and 4 strikeouts, and junior Chris Roosevelt had an earned run average of 1. Fielding, Mouton had 3 putouts and 4 assists, Griffith had 7 putouts, Fogle had 3 putouts and assists, and Paredes had 5 putouts.

FSU’s next game is in Frostburg on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m.
