Bobcats Start The Party With Win Against Wheeling
The Frostburg State University (FSU) Bobcats played host to the Wheeling University Cardinals on their homecoming game this past Saturday. The forecast called for rain, but that didn’t stop the Bobcats from dominating in this match. Early on in the game, the Bobcats seemed unable to find their rhythm, leaving the Cardinals to connect on a 6 yard touchdown catch to Lowell Patron from Brennon Norris.
Later on in the first quarter, the Bobcats succeeded in gaining their first touchdown of the game on a four yard run, completed by Gavin Lavat, making the score 7-7.
With the second quarter beginning, the Bobcats not only found their rhythm, but instead, put on a show for the ages in both their passing and running game. This was mostly done when Malcolm Facey added to the party with a massive 40 yard touchdown run, effectively boosting the overall score to 14-7. Later, Graham Walker connected to Malik Morris for a 40 yard touchdown, once again boosting the score and making it 21-7, just before the end of the second quarter.
Right before half-time, Dayne Koontz hit a 32 yard field goal, leaving the score at a whopping 24-10. At the start of the second half, Frostburg kick returner Zae Giles returned a kick 91 yards for the touchdown, changing the score to 31-10. Zae Giles proceeded to put on an encore for the fans as quarterback Graham Walker and him connected on a 65 yard touchdown pass, now boosting the score to 38-10. Wheeling attempted to spoil these hard earned wins by scoring a touchdown early in the fourth, not even nearly leveling out the score by making it 38-17. Frostburg kicker Dayne Koontz would have one more kick in this game as he hit one from 23 yards, making the score increase for the Bobcats yet again, now resting at an easy 41-17 in the middle of the 4th quarter.
Frostburg successfully danced their way to a 41-17 win as the rain continued to drizzle, obviously no match for the Bobcat offensives’ fire power. Frostburg has now advanced their record to 6-1, and 5-1 in the conference.
The Bobcats will travel to Fairmont State, WV, next Saturday to take on the Falcons for their next game. That game will kickoff at 1 P.M. Est.
