Bobcats Wild Out

On Friday, Oct. 5, Frostburg State University’s very own Creative Minds hosted their version of the comedy show Wild’N Out. You may remember Creative Minds from last week’s article Get Creative. Creative Minds is the on-campus organization that has set a goal to assist students in preparing for creative opportunities that may arise in their future.

The actual Wild’N Out program is aired on MTV. The show was created by actor Nick Cannon, and it gives comedians the opportunity to showcase their talents. In the show, the comedians are split into two teams: the Red Squad and the Black Squad. The two teams must compete against each other in multiple comedic games. Throughout the games, the team members must create jokes off the top of their heads to see which team is the funniest.

Creative Minds teamed up with Black Student Association (BSA) to bring this humorous event to Frostburg. Instead of getting comedians, the two organizations enlisted the help of their fellow on-campus organizations. They were split into two teams. The first team was Team Creative Minds. This team consisted of seven organizations: Creative Minds, African Student Association, Fandom Society, Paparazzi Perfect, Relationship Goals, Strutters Dance Team, and Visual Couture. The second team was Team BSA, which consisted of seven other organizations: BSA, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Sigma Pi, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.

The organizations came together to put on a show for their peers here at FSU. The room filled with laughter as the team members went back and forth cracking jokes on one another. Tickets for the event went on sale Monday, Oct. 1 at the student box office in the Lane University Center and were free for the general body to attend. The event was held in the Manicur Assembly Hall (ARMAH) of the Lane University Center and doors to the event opened promptly at 6 p.m.

Excited to see such a humorous event, FSU students filled the room. The game began with a word from Creative Minds’ president Justin Alexander. Alexander informed the audience that the jokes made on stage that night were just that and did not reflect the views or beliefs of anyone participating. The teams were set, and the crowd was filled with excitement. The teams played actual games from the show. Some of the games played were Talking Spit, Bail Me Out, and Family Reunion.

One of the games that the teams competed in was called Got Props. In this game, each team was given a prop that they were required to use to make jokes and act out things to receive points. Team BSA was given an iron and Team Creative Minds was given a broom. Whoever had the funniest act received a bell, and whoever had the worst act received a buzzer. The team with the greatest number of bells would win the game. Both teams kept the crowd entertained and laughing the entire show. However, Team BSA showed everyone that they were the best at Got Props.

Another game that the teams competed in really got the crowd going. This game was called Let Me Holla/Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. This game included help from Creative Minds’ rendition of the Wild’N Out Girls. The role of the Wild’N Out Girls was played by models from two of FSU’s modeling organizations, Paparazzi Perfect and Visual Couture. Members from both Team Creative Minds and Team BSA took turns using their best pick-up lines, or their best break-up lines on the beautiful Wild’N Out Girls. The best pick-up lines and the best break-up lines received a bell, while the worst pick-up lines and the worst break-up lines received a buzzer. The team with the most bells would win the game. Once again Team BSA prevailed.

To close the show the teams competed in one last game: the infamous Wild Style. Wild Style was introduced on the actual show as a rap battle between the comedians. In the rap battle during the event, the participants would crack jokes on one another and each funny punchline received a bell. Each bell received added to the teams total score. The battle got intense between the two teams and they kept the audience laughing with their jokes. As the battle came to an end, it was revealed that Team BSA would be taking home the win as the comedic champions at FSU. Creative Minds had held another successful event and ended everyone’s Friday evening on an amusing note. Though it was a great event, this is just the beginning of what Creative Minds has in store for Frostburg this year.
