Cole Scores 1,000th Point as Frostburg Falls To York

The Frostburg State University (FSU) men’s basketball team fell to the York (PA) this past Thursday. This was an exciting game for senior Edwin Cole, as he needed 20 points to be the 20th player in FSU’s history to score a thousand points. Cole had a double-double scoring 21 points with 14 rebounds. It was a strong effort by the Bobcats that came up short in a 67-82 loss.

Off to a fast start, the Bobcats took a 10 point lead making the score 27-17 11 minutes into the first half. York battled back to make the score 35-31.  It took awhile for the Bobcats to come alive in the second half, only scoring 4 points 5 minutes into the half. On the other hand, the Spartans came out hot taking the lead. FSU had a few spurts of scoring to tie the game at 41 and later at 47, but never picked up enough momentum to stop the Spartans from taking a 15 point lead at the 7 minute mark of the second half. Late in second half, the Spartans kept the score at a steady 9 to 10 points until the end of the game.

Edwin Cole, Lawrence Pettis, Demetrich Williams, and Zachary Coalmon all scored 7 points in the contest. This loss makes makes a four game losing streak for the Bobcats dropping them to 10-14 on the season.

The Bobcats next game is Saturday, Feb. 16 against in-state rival Salisbury at Bobcat Arena. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
