Cox and Morant Earn Football Honors

After leading the Bobcats to a 34-7 win over Rowan, senior quarterback Connor Cox was selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week. In the Rowan game, Cox scored four touchdowns in total, throwing for two and rushing for two. Cox remarked, “It means a lot to be named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week. Although this was individual recognition, that could not be accomplished if it were not for all of my teammates. Without my offensive line blocking and my receivers and running backs making plays, none of my success would be possible.”

Cox started off the third quarter against Rowan by completing a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Lincoln Ikwubuo. With this play, Cox now holds the most passing yards in FSU football history. “Every record that I have passed, and am fortunate to hopefully pass during the remainder of the season, is a blessing. As I said before, none of my success would be possible if it wasn’t for my teammates and my coaches, I’m very thankful,” mentioned Cox.

Senior running back, Jamaal Morant, also made history during the Rowan game. Morant rushed for 10 yards on first and 10 in the first quarter. Thanks to his first down carry, he became the seventh player in FSU football history to rush for 2,000 career yards.Reaching the 2,000 yard mark was a great accomplishment for my teammates and I.  Specifically, my offensive line. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible. I think I played pretty well, but there is always room for improvement. This season I’m looking forward to winning a NJAC championship and making it to the playoffs,” remarked Morant.

As for this season, Cox said, “I think that everything we want is right in front of us and it’s just a matter of us going and taking it. We hold our own destiny and if we take care of business every week, I think the only team that can beat us is ourselves.”
