Crime line 9/17-9/24

9/17/14 Traffic Arrest: Officer stopped a white 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Braddock Road for an equipment violation. As a result the driver was issued a Maryland Safety Equipment Repair Order for the equipment violation and a citation for driving on a suspended license.

 

9/17/14 Trespassing:  Officers responded to the intersection of College Avenue and Broadway to assist officers of the Frostburg Police Department with a male subject that was creating a disturbance.

 

9/17/14 Traffic Arrest: Officer stopped a 2000 Nissan Maxima traveling east on E. College Ave., observe turn from eastbound E. College Ave. for a seatbelt violation. As a result the driver was issued two traffic citations; one for the seatbelt violation and the second for driving on a suspended license and privilege.

9/18/14 Notification: Psychology Professor reported a situation which he thought may fit the requirements of the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse. Contact was made with the Allegany County Child Protective Services.

 

9/18/14 Request For Officer: Officers responded toWestminster Hall quad 607 to 610 for a CDS complaint. Upon arrival, officers detected a very faint odor of marijuana. Officers spoke with a resident of room 609 who granted officers to enter his room. At this time, there was no indication of the presence of CDS. Officers did not detect the odor of marijuana at the other room doors of the quad.

 

9/19/14 Alarm: Officers clearing an incident in Frederick Hall, heard an alarm sounding and observed the fire alarm strobes to be activated in Westminster Hall. Officers entered the sixth floor and could smell an odor of burnt food. The oven, in the kitchen area appeared to be the source of the smoke. Firefighters ventilated the building and confirmed that the food in the oven caused the smoky conditions on the sixth floor.

 

9/19/14 Damage to Property:  Officers standing by with the residents of Westminster Hall, while the fire department cleared the area from an automatic alarm call at Westminster Hall, a Frostburg Fire truck was leaving the scene and struck a wooden guardrail in front of Frederick Hall, causing damage to both the guardrail and the vehicle.

 

9/19/14 Request For Officer: Officers responded to the Ort Library for hate speech written on a library book. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant, a library employee, who handed officers an old library book and upon looking at the back of the book, it was observed “KKK Rules” written in faded red ink. Directly below this was an arrow and the words “In Hell” written in faded blue ink. Judging by how faded the ink appeared, it was obvious that these things were written on the book years ago.  The book had not been checked out in over 15 years, and was going to be removed from circulation anyway due to the fact the book was 26 years old and was outdated and not being used.

 

9/19/14 Drug Law Violation: Officers responded to Cumberland Hall, room 203, reference to a complaint of cds activity. Following investigation resident was referred to the judicial board and issued two criminal citations; one for possession of paraphernalia and the other for possession of marijuana. Resident Assistant on Duty notified.

 

9/19/14 Knock & Talk: Officers spoke to residents of 44 Charles Street about the occurrence of large parties in the area recently. The residents were advised of the consequences of hosting large parties and creating excessive noise.

 

9/19/14 TIPS: Officers were dispatched to 102 Wood Street for a report of an anonymous complaint of a large house party. Due to the address out of the concurrent jurisdiction boundaries, Frostburg City Police were called to respond.  Officers responded to the area and were unable to observe any subjects in the area or hear any loud noise. It was determined that officers would monitor the house for the rest of the night in case any issues arose.

 

9/19/14 Assist Other Agency: Officers responded to 168 Bowery Street to assist the Frostburg Police Department with an excessive noise complaint. Upon arrival, officers of FSUPD and FPD stood-by until a large crowd dispersed the residence. A civil citation was issued by FPD for the excessive noise violation.

9/19/14 Community Policing: Officers observed several members of the sorority Delta Zeta standing in front of 110 Bowery Street selling hot dogs. Contact was made with the group and spoke with them for approximately 30-45 minutes about numerous topics, including any issues they wanted to pass along. One of the issues reported were vehicles travelling at excessive speeds on Bowery Street at College Avenue and vehicles not stopping at the stop signs in the area. While standing in the area, officers were able to make contact with numerous pedestrians who were walking on Bowery Street.

 

9/20/14 Assist Other Agency: Officers parked at the intersection of Charles Street and Wood Street observed most of the night, large crowds of people travelling, by foot, on Wood Street. There appeared to be several large house parties in the area, however, the parties were all inside of the residences. Officers Frostburg City Police stopped their vehicle in front of 133 Wood Street and made contact with a group which had just left the building. Frostburg City Police advised he observed two females just about to fight each other. At that time, officers responded to their location. Frostburg City Police determined that the females had exited a party at 133 Wood Street, Apt. B.; they made contact with the residents of the apartment and advised them to shut down the party.  Officers and several other Frostburg City Police stood by in the area until the crowd dispersed.

  

9/20/14 Disturbance: Officers responded to the area behind Cumberland Hall for a report of a disturbance involving a male and a female.  Officers determined the disturbance was verbal in nature.  The Male, a non-student was issued a no trespass order.

 

9/20/14 Request For Officer: Officers responded to the Appalachian Lab, 301 Braddock Road, for an automatic unauthorized entry alarm. Upon arrival, officers observed employees loading and unloading items for the Appalachian Festival. No further police action taken.

 

9/20/14 Animal Complaint: Officers removed a snake from in front of the sidewalk at Edgewood Commons.

 

9/20/14 Assist Other Agency/Liquor Law Violation:  Officers responded to Braddock Road to back up Frostburg City Police with a report of a fight in progress. As a result on subject was issued a civil citation for underage alcohol consumption.

 

9/20/14 Trespassing:  Officers responded to Annapolis Hall for a trespassing complaint. One subject was issued a criminal citation for Trespassing.

 

9/21/14 Liquor law Violation:  Officers responded to Cumberland Hall, room 337, for a report of an intoxicated female.  Student was issued a civil citation for underage possession/consumption of an alcoholic beverage under the ageof 21.

 

9/21/14 TIPS: Police received a call on the FSU TIPS line reporting a large group in the second block of Wood Street. Officers along with Frostburg City Police were patrolling Wood St. and did not observe any violations. Officers remained in the area approximately 20 minutes along with Frostburg City Police with no violation observed.

 

9/21/14 Request For Officer: Student advised she heard what she thought could be a gun shot or fireworks in front of Westminster Hall. Officers in the area advised it was fireworks.

 

9/21/14 Request For Officer: Edgewood Commons Resident Assistant reported two stray cats in lounge. Officers responded and both cats were removed from the building.

 

9/21/14 Alarm: Officers responded to the Appalachian Lab, 301 Braddock Road, for an automatic unauthorized entry alarm. Upon arrival, officers advised there were several employees going in and out of the building and loading and unloading materials for the Appalachian Festival.

 

 

9/21/14 Assist Other Agency:  Officers were dispatched to the area behind the Osborne Newman Center, on Broadway Street, for a suspicious subject. Dispatch advised that the subject was a male who was dressed all in black and was crouched by the road. Officers along with the Frostburg City Police responded to the area and were unable to locate any subjects matching the description in the area.

 

9/22/14 Hit and Run Accident:  Officer responded to Pullen Lot for a hit and run accident.  Hit and run driver was identified and was issued two traffic citations.

 

9/22/14 Skateboard Complaint:  Officer observed a skateboarder cross University Dr. and continue on sidewalk in front of Ort Library.  Officer was able to make contact with skateboarder and he was identified him as a FSU student.  Student advised he was unaware skateboards were not allowed on FSU property.  Officer advised him to read his Pathfinder.

 

9/23/14 Assist Other Agency:  Frostburg City Police (FPD) requested our assistance with an unattended death on Braddock Rd.

 

9/24/14 Assist Other Agency:  Assisted FPD in attempting to locate a male subject who had violated a protective order by being at a residence on Hill St.  FPD officers advised male subject took off on foot upon their arrival toward Spring St.  Description of subject was given.  All units unable to locate.
