Crime Lines 11/15/2022 – 11/21/2022

11/15/2022 Damage to Property – Officers reported to FSUPD HQ to investigate a report of damage to property by an FSU employee. The Ocularis camera footage was reviewed. Officers identified a tractor trailer backing up and striking the Lane Center loading dock gate. The Director of Facilities was made aware of the findings. He stated he would inspect the loading dock and gate, but that it was most likely knocked off the rails that allow it to raise up and down. He stated it has happened in the past.

11/15/2022 CDS – Officers were dispatched to a room in Edgewood Commons for a report of CDS paraphernalia found while conducting a fire inspection of a vacant room. After making contact with the occupant of the room he admitted to using the room for “smoking marijuana”. During the investigation, officers confiscated CDS and paraphernalia. The FSU student was advised he would be referred to the Judicial Board for sanctions. Due to his compliance and cooperation, as well as the small amount of marijuana collected, officers elected not to issue a civil citation for possession of marijuana.

11/16/2022 Narcotics Complaint – Officers responded to Brownsville Hall for a smoke alarm and a possible odor of marijuana. The residents of the room in question advised they were burning candles and set off the alarm. Both were advised there was no candles or open flames in the dorm of any kind. There was no odor of marijuana. Judicial board Referral Submitted.

11/16/2022 Sex Offense – Other – Officers met with a walk-in complainant at UPD. Before making contact, the officer was updated with information on the complainant regarding a similar “sexual assault” event that was reported to a professor and then to UPD a few days prior to this day. A report was taken from the FSU student. Case is still currently under investigation.

11/17/2022 Request for Officer – While conducting building checks in the area of Compton Science Center, an officer was approached by a male student who insisted he give him a ride home due to the weather. Officers do not transport individuals around campus unless there are extenuating circumstances. The student continued to demand from the officer a ride home and displayed numerous signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. Due to the constant badgering from the student, the officer advised the student if he did not let him help him find someone to call for a ride, he was going to request his ID and he would be issued a citation for underage drinking. The student eventually walked away. The student then contacted police dispatch and the supervisor on duty to express his dissatisfaction. Officers were able to confirm the subject did make it to his apartment at Edgewood by utilizing Ocularis Cameras. Judicial Board Referral Submitted.

11/17/2022 Assist Other Agency (C3I, FPD, CPD) – Officers assisted with the service of search warrants. Two search warrants were executed simultaneously at two different addresses in the town. Both being within a block of campus.

11/18/2022 Traffic Arrest – While patrolling East College Avenue, officers observed a vehicle exit the Guild Lot against a clearly posted “DO NOT ENTER” sign. A traffic stop was initiated. Dispatch ran the driver’s information and advised the driver was suspended. Several citations were issued. The vehicle was moved to a nearby parking lot until a valid driver could respond and legally drive the vehicle from the area.

11/20/2022 Narcotics Complaint – Officers responded to Cumberland Hall for a report of an odor of marijuana. Contact was made with the subject of the room where the odor was strongest. As the student opened his door, officers could smell the distinct odor of burnt marijuana in the air, in addition to freshly sprayed air freshener as well as observing an open window and a running fan. The subject denied smoking in his room. Officers advised the student of the current rules and laws against marijuana usage on campus. Judicial Board Referral submitted

11/20/2022 Assist Other Agency – A DNR Officer contacted FSUPD advising he was following a vehicle on Route 936 outside of Frostburg. FPD was notified however, FSUPD overheard radio transmission stating the vehicle was stopped at the Frostburg Post Office. FSUPD responded to the area and observed two (2) FPD units out with DNR. No assistance was needed.
