Eagles Victorious Against 49ers

On January 29, 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers played to determine who would go on to play in the Superbowl. The Eagles started the game off strong with their first possession. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a short six-yard pass to WR A. J. Brown on 1st & 10. Unfortunately, on the second play, Line backer Fred Warner of the 49ers got injured. 

On the 49ers’ first possession, there was one nine-yard and one ten-yard pass, each on 1st & 10. The penalty on Line Backer Haason Reddick was declined. On 2nd & 6, QB Brock Purdy made an incomplete short pass to WR Brandon Aiyuk. However, Philadelphia challenged it, and the play was ruled a fumble, with the Eagles’ Defensive Tackle Linval Joseph recovering the ball. Purdy was injured. Hurts made an incomplete deep pass to Brown on 3rd & 10. 

In the second quarter, Hurts amazingly evaded a safety by rolling out of the pocket in the midst of a sack on 2nd & 11. Then, under pressure, Hurts throws an incomplete pass to Brown. There were two plays each on 1st & 10 where the 49ers’ second-string QB Josh Johnson threw a short pass to WR Christian McCaffrey for a gain of nine yards. On 2nd & 10, McCaffrey makes a spectacular 23-yard rush, evading defenders and making it into the endzone, scoring a touchdown for the 49ers. The field goal by kicker Robbie Gould is good, making the score 7-7. On 2nd & 5, RB Miles Sanders runs 13 yards for a touchdown and Eagles made the extra point. The score was 7-14. On the 49ers’ drive, there was a fumble with the Eagles gaining possession of the ball. There were two plays where Hurts made a pass to TE Dallas Goedert for a gain of 5 yards. RB Boston Scott made a ten-yard rush for a touchdown and the extra point was good, making the score 7-20. 

In the 3rd quarter, Johnson threw an incomplete deep pass intended for Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel, which was almost intercepted by corner back Darius Slay. Hurts threw an incomplete deep pass for Brown. On 2nd & 9, Hurts ran for a gain of seven yards. Hurts made an impressive pass caught low to the ground by Smith on 3rd & 2. Hurts ran 14 yards, a few short of the end zone on 2nd & 8. There was a penalty on Talanoa Hufanga for unnecessary roughness. The next play the Eagles got one yard for a touchdown; the kick was good. The score was 7-28. 

In the 4th quarter, the Eagles were stopped thirteen yards short of the end zone but were able to make a field goal, putting the score at 7-31. On the 49ers possession, there was a fumble with Eagles’ Reed Blankenship coming away with the ball. The Eagles were in the super bowl.
