Frostburg Baseball Begins the Season Winning 9 Straight

The Bobcats open the 2015 season on a 9 game win streak that has them standing at number 1 in the CAC.  It’s been all smiles for Bobcats’ players and coaches this season even though the Bobcats have yet to play a game in Frostburg. Frostburg State University looks to put in another strong season in their quest to become CAC champions.  The Bobcats currently stand at 9-0 which is a FSU record.

The season has been highlighted by outstanding pitching performances from their three starting pitchers. Clayton Freimuth, new to the Bobcats this year and the day three starter put on a show in his first start by pitching a 14k no-hitter against Guilford. Freimuth, a recent transfer from Trinity University in Texas was also named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week after his no-hitter performance. Freimuth is 2-0 with a (1.17) ERA on the season; he also has 26 strikeouts in 2 starts while given up just 2 earned runs in 15.1 innings.

Opening day pitcher and the Bobcats leading ace senior Bennett Schiltz is tied for first in wins with teammate Greg Schneider in the CAC. Schiltz and Schneider both have 3 wins and no losses on the season. Schiltz like Freimuth has allowed just 2 earned runs on the season. Schiltz has a (0.76) ERA in 26.2 innings on the season (leads CAC in innings). Freashman Greg Schneider has a (2.04) ERA on the season. To sum things up on how dominating and reliable Bobcats starting pitching has been; all three Bobcats starting pitchers are in the top 3 in the Capital Athletic Conference in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts pitched.

Pitching has not been the only part of this team that has led them to an impressive undefeated record. The Bobcats have also made some noise in the batters box. The Bobcats as a team are batting a mindboggling (.318). Six starters are batting over (.300) with 3 batting over (.4000 in seniors Kam Stewart (.441), Nick Walker (.438) and Ricky Castro (.414). Stewart leads the team in runs with (16) and hits (15). Senior Nick Walker leads the Bobcats in RBIs (16), on base percentage (.550) and slugging percentage (.813). Senior Ricky Brady has 3 of the Bobcats 7 home runs this season.

The Bobcats look to continue to roll over their completion as they take on CAC foe Southern Virginia on March 11 (Game against Stevenson for March 10 was Postponed).
