Frostburg Football Finishes Season With Win
On Saturday, November 12, Frostburg traveled to West Liberty, West Virginia to play their final game of the season.
FSU opened up the game with a touchdown after two huge runs made by RB Josh Maxwell that put Frostburg on the 5-yard line. Two plays later and Graham Walker finds Jordan Marcucci for a 2-yard touchdown pass.

This first quarter was very exciting and it looked like this game was going to be a shootout after the Bobcats’ answered West Liberty’s touchdown with another touchdown of their own. An 11-play drive was captivated by RB Sean Aaron who had 5 rushes and WR Jermaine Earl who had a 24-yard reception. But it was RB Josh Maxwell who ran for the last 10 yards to score a touchdown and give FSU the 14-7 lead.
These two offensives kept pushing the pace and were definitely catching the defensives off guard. West Liberty looked like they were going to tie the game at 14 but on a 3rd and 5, the entire Bobcat defense pushed their way through the offensive line and tackled West Liberty’s RB for a loss of 2-yards which made them kick a field goal. FSU 14 – West Liberty 10.
The second quarter was not as much of a scoring fest as the first, these defenses found themselves, especially FSU’s. Cornerback Jeremiah Baxter intercepted a pass from Rudy Garcia to give the ball back to the offense, unfortunately, the bobcats couldn’t do anything on their next two drives.
With West Liberty on their heels and in their own endzone and defensive end Luke Freeman sacked the QB which caused a fumble. Freeman stayed on top of the ball and secured it for a defensive touchdown which put Frostburg up 21-10.
West Liberty started their first drive of the second half on fire. Three huge plays pushed them down the field quickly with the 26-yard reception being the touchdown catch that put West Liberty just 4 points behind FSU. Frostburg 21- West Liberty 17.
Frostburg wanted to score but didn’t need to do it as fast as West Liberty did. This 14-play possession lasted just under seven minutes. A lot of the plays were rushes by Sean Aaron however, RB Josh Maxwell started off the drive with two great runs that gained 30 yards. Graham Walker finished the drive with a 1-yard QB sneak that put Frostburg up 28-17.
After a good defensive possession by West Liberty, FSU had to punt from their own endzone which gave West Liberty an amazing field position. After a pass interference that was called on FSU’s AJ Felton, West Liberty’s QB Rudy Garcia ran the ball in for seven yards to score a touchdown. Frostburg is still up 28-23.
After back-and-forth possessions between both teams, West Liberty had one last chance to score with just over two minutes left to play. On the second play of the drive QB, Rudy Garcia fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Bobcat defensemen Robert Horsey, FSU kneeled down to run the clock out and win the game 28-23.
FSU does not qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs, however, In Eric Wagoner’s first year as the Frostburg head coach, he goes 8-3 with a huge win over Notre Dame which FSU hasn’t previously beaten. Of FSU’s 3 losses, two of them were by 1 point and the other was a 4-point loss. Frostburg will be grateful to have Wagoner come back next year and keep this football program heading in the right direction.
