Frostburg Looking Forward to Homecoming Weekend
Woodstock: Peace, Love, Frostburg.
That will be the theme for this year’s Homecoming, which begins on October 16 and runs through the entire weekend, ending on the 19. Frostburg has held many Homecomings throughout the years, but everyone feels this will be one of the best Homecoming weekends to date. Members in the Student Government Association, who are sponsoring the events this coming weekend, feel like it will be great for not only the students, but for the entire community as well, celebrating Frostburg as a whole.
When asked what can people expect from this year’s Homecoming, Joey Fallon, who is the Public Relations Chair for the Student Government Association at Frostburg, replied that it will be, “more powerful than before.” For starters, it will be a “very fun pep rally,” which kicks Homecoming weekend off on Thursday, October 16 at 7 p.m. With all the events going on during the coming weekend, Fallon said that it, “brings a lot of fun with it.” While planning this years Homecoming events, Fallon also said that many “staff members have said it’s one of the best in years.”
The events that will be taking place this year will start on Thursday , October 16, beginning with the pep rally, followed by the concert Friday night, featuring the country-rock band Firefall. After the concert on Friday, tailgating then begins Saturday morning, followed by the Frostburg Bobcats playing Ithica College at 1:00 p.m. After the game, the Homecoming dance begins Saturday night.
The band that will be performing Friday night will be Firefall, a band that was first formed in 1974, in Boulder, Colorado. Firefall have several chart singles since the band first started, including the top ten hit, “You Are The Woman.” Frostburg is very excited about bringing Firefall to it’s Homecoming weekend. SGA also hopes that the tailgating before the football game on Saturday will also really help bring the feel of Homecoming weekend to Frostburg. During halftime of the game, the Frostburg marching band will also perform. While getting interviews with SGA members, they were very enthusiastic while talking about the marching band, speaking very highly of them, and saying that they’ve really liked what they’ve seen and heard from them so far. The Homecoming game will really set the tone and feel of what this weekend is all about for everyone that lives in or around the Frostburg area.
When speaking to a few members of SGA, they all felt that this Homecoming weekend would be different from past years, and with the theme being Woodstock, they also feel that a throwback weekend would be special to Frostburg and it’s surrounding community. When asked how they decided upon Woodstock as there theme this year, the SGA members who were interviewed said it was mostly up to the SGA President Katie Morgan and the Executive Board of Frostburg. When the SGA members heard about this year’s theme though, they were all excited. The SGA said they very much wanted a different kind of feeling than in past years, and that a retro feel to Homecoming weekend this year was a great idea.
Frostburg and it’s surrounding communities are all looking forward to Homecoming. When asked if there was anything else the SGA wanted to comment on, Sam Lohff immediately said, “School pride, be proud of the fact that we go to Frostburg.” Joey Fallon then added in, “Bring your friends to everything,” and support Frostburg. The SGA really hopes that people have fun this year and that it is a great weekend to be associated with Frostburg State University.
