Frostburg Softball Drops Two Over The Weekend
On Saturday February 12th, the Frostburg State University (FSU) softball team traveled to Anderson South Carolina to take on the Anderson Trojans in their first games of the season. This was a double-header that dominated in more ways than just winning the games.
The first game was very tough for the Bobcats, not being able to have a player gain a hit on the ball. At the most, there were a total of two walks to first base. the one coming from Katie Ernst, and the other from Kennadie Batcelor.
On the other side, Anderson had no problem at all getting back to home base for a score. There was a stump in the second inning, but they made up for all the scoring they did not do from the third inning on. After the first inning, the Trojans went on to score seven more runs, and the game ended eight to zero.
In game two of the double-header, there was more of a fight put up from the Bobcats, but in the defensive battle that was this double-header, Frostburg still was not able to break past two points.
At the bottom of the first inning, Anderson scored a homer which brought two runners to home base. Segueing into the second and third innings, there was a long standoff. Both teams were not able to score, until Frostburg broke the stalemate in the beginning of the fourth inning. Jayla hill hit a fly ball to center field and helped Brianna Powell run in for the score.
The very next play, Mackenzie Baker hit a ground ball to center field and that advanced Sierra Sanderson home. Frostburg did well capitalizing on their first score, but Anderson did better, once again scoring seven unanswered runs. The final score was 8-2.
This was a rough first weekend for the Bobcats, but they’re hopeful for a bounce back next week as they host Mars Hill University next Saturday at 12 P.M.
