Frostburg Volleyball Falls in Back-to-Back Road Games

On Friday, Nov. 1st the Frostburg State University Bobcats would take on the West Liberty Hilltoppers in away game. The match started at 7:00 p.m. with both teams fired up and ready to go.

In the first set of the match, West Liberty would find themselves up 5-2. Later in the set Frostburg would put together a run that would have them down by four with the score being 15-11. The Hilltoppers would put together a 10-4 run that would help them take the first set 25-15.

At the beginning of the second set, the Bobcats and Hilltoppers would find themselves tied 3-3. Back and forth play would continue until an 8-1 run helped West Liberty put them ahead 22-14, and would give them enough momentum to close the second set 25-15.

In the third and final set, West Liberty would take a 7-4 lead until the Bobcats would battle back with a 6 – 1 run that would put them up 10-8. Both teams would fight back and forth where Frostburg would find themselves with the lead. West Liberty would score five straight points to win the third and final set 25-23 and would win the match in a sweep.

The Bobcats leaders in statistics would be sophomore Raven Pratt with 8 kills, first-year Jackie Sterenberg with 7 kills and 3 aces, sophomore Haley Altemus with 7 kills, and senior Bailey Godlove with 6 kills and 3 aces.

In the second match, the Bobcats would take on Wheeling University on Nov. 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in an away game. Frostburg would come in trying to bounce back after a tough loss.

Wheeling would come out hot against Frostburg as they strung together an 8-2 run. Wheeling would continue to dominate and would take the first set 25-12.

The second set would be much like the first for Wheeling as they would put together two big runs that would have them leading 19-7. Wheeling would carry the momentum on and close the second set 25-9.

The third and final set would see Wheeling getting out to a 12-4 cushion and would continue to put pressure on winning the third set 25-9 and winning the match in a sweep.

The Bobcats leaders in statistics were Altemus with 6 kills and 3 blocks, Sterenberg had 4 kills, Godlove had 4 kills, 1 block and 1 ace, and sophomore Tyler Lott with 1 kill.

“We have to take these losses as lessons and learn from them,” Sterenberg said of the two losses on the week.

Frostburg Volleyball will be back in action Friday, Nov. 8th at 7:00 p.m.
