Frostburg Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Road Games
Frostburg State Bobcats volleyball team would be on the road to take on the Davis and Elkins Senators on Nov. 8th at 7:00 p.m.
The first set was a back and forth affair from both teams. The score was 21-18 when the Senators made their final run to take the first set 25-19.
In the second set, the game would be much like the first as the Bobcats would find themselves down by two with the score being 7-5 early on. The Senators would put together an impressive 10-0 run that would give them a 17-6 lead. The Senators would carry on this momentum and win the second set 25-18.
The third set would be intense, packed with back and forth play throughout the entire set. Frostburg would win the third set to stay alive in the match 25-21.
The Senators would come out in the fourth set eager to put the game to an end and not have to go to a fifth set. Both teams were competitive and the game would be close early in the set with the score at 12-9. The Senators would put up another impressive run with 12 unanswered points that would win them the set 25-13 to win them the match 3 games to 1.
The Bobcats statistical leaders for this game would be Bailey Godlove who would have 9 kills and 2 aces, Haley Altemus with 9 kills and 3 blocks, Edwyna Lainez with 5 kills and 3 aces, and first-year Jackie Sterenberg 5 with kills and 2 blocks.
In the second game of the weekend for the Bobcats, they would take on West Virginia Wesleyan in a road game at 10:00 AM.
In the first set, Frostburg would take control by making sure they led the entire way. The Bobcats would cruise to a win 25-19 taking the first set. In the second set, it looked as though Wesleyan would take the second set by leading 22-15.
The Bobcats would come out of a time out scorching hot, putting up 10 unanswered points taking the second set 25-22. In the third set, Frostburg looked to accomplish a sweep, but could not put it together and Wesleyan would win the set 25-11.
In the fourth set, Frostburg would take command from the start and would not look back. Frostburg would take the fourth set 25-19 and win the match 3 games to 1.
“I feel as though we could be better and have a winning record at this point of the season, but at the same time we moved up a division and are continuing to get better on the way,” senior middle-hitter Biamba Tshitenge said.
The Bobcat statistical leaders were Sterenberg with 12 kills and 4 aces, Tshitenge with 9 kills and 3 blocks, Godlove with 7 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks, and Altemus with 7 kills.
Frostburg Volleyball will be suiting up again to take on Fairmont State in an away game on Tuesday, Nov. 12th. Tip-off will start at 6:00 p.m.
