Frostburg Volleyball goes 2-2 in weekly games

On Tuesday, Sept. 24th, The Frostburg State Volleyball team faced Bowie State University for the second time this season. The Bobcats would win the match in a clean sweep 3 to 0. The first set started with the Bobcats and the Bulldogs going back and forth until Frostburg put together an 8 to 2 run that helped them take the first set 25 to 20.

In the second set, the Bobcats got out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. They cruised to a win in the second set winning 25 to 13. The third set would be much like the second one which Frostburg dominating the Bulldogs to tale the 3rd set 25 to 9 and winning the match.

“It was fun being out here with my teammates, we executed and were clicking on all cylinders,” first-year outside hitter Jackie Sterenberg said of the win.

The game stat leaders were Sterenberg with 13 kills and 1 block, senior outside hitter Bailey Godlove with 8 kills and 2 blocks, and first-year middle hitter Taylor Patrick with 7 kills.

The Bobcats would take on Urbana University in an away game on Friday, Sept. 27th. The Bobcats would lose the match in a clean sweep 3-0.

In the first set, the Knights jumped out to a 16-11 lead against the Bobcats and would not let off the gas pedal from they would win the set 25-18. In the second set, it was a back and forth going until Urbana’s 6-0 run put them up by 3.

The Knights put together a 10-2 run helped them win the set 25-16. In the 3rd set, the Bobcats came out hot leading 6-3 until the Knights answered with a 7-0 run.

The Knights would never trail again winning the third set 25 to 12. The Bobcats stat leaders were Sterenberg who had 8 kills and 1 block, senior middle hitter Biamba Tshitenge with 7 kills, and first-year setter Edwyna Lainez 2 kills and 1 ace.

On Saturday, Sept. 28th, the Bobcats traveled to Notre Dame College to take on Notre Dame College and Salem University in a Tri-Match.

The Bobcats would go 1-1 in the match losing to Notre Dame and beating Salem. In the first game against Notre Dame, the Falcons would come out and start a 4-2 lead against Frostburg. It was a competitive first set, but it would end with the Falcons taking it 25-14.

The other two sets were much similar to the first with Notre Dame out working Frostburg. They would win both sets 25-16 and 25-15 and win the match in 3 games.

Frostburg’s stat leaders were Tshitenge having 7 kills and 3 blocks and Sterenberg with 5 kills.

In the second match, Frostburg would take on Salem University. The Bobcats started off hot as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Bobcats would continue on strong and finish the first set 25-21. The next two sets Frostburg would not turn back.

They would win the next two sets in smooth fashion winning 25 to 15 and 25 to 10. The stat leaders for the Bobcats were Sterenberg with 10 kills, sophomore middle hitter Raven Pratt with 9 kills and 1 block, and first-year middle hitter Tatyanna Kittendorf with 5 kills and 1 blocks.

“I think we played hard in both games, we didn’t get the results we wanted by going 1 and 1 but all we can do is learn from our mistakes and move on to the next,” Pratt said of their performance at the tri-match.

The volleyball team will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 29th against Lake Erie College at 2 p.m.
