Frostburg Volleyball Lose 2 On the Road
On Friday, Oct. 18th the Frostburg State University volleyball team would go on the road to take on the University of Charleston Golden Eagles.
In the first set, the Golden Eagles got off to an 8 to 4 lead and then would execute an 8 to 2 run that would give them a 16 to 7 lead. The Bobcats would not recover and would lose the first set 25 to 13.
In the second set, Charleston would start off hot again with a 7 to 0 run. But this time, Frostburg would battle back in the middle of the set to be down by 1 with the score being 15 to 14. The Golden Eagles would take control and closeout and win the second set 25 to 17.
The third set would be much of the same as the first one. The Golden Eagles would come out to a 13 to 4 lead in the middle of the set. Adding an 8 to 2 run would help close the third set with the score 25 to 12 and would win the match for Charleston in a 3 game sweep.
Frostburg’s leaders in statistics were Haley Altemus with 7 kills and 2 blocks, Raven Pratt with 4 kills and 3 blocks, Bailey Godlove with 4 kills, and Jackie Sterenberg with 2 kills.
The Bobcat’s next match would be again on the road against West Virginia State on Saturday, Oct. 19.
In the match against West Virginia State, the Bobcats would be coming in looking to bounce back from their previous loss.
The Yellow Jackets would start the match off scoring 4 straight points to put them up over the Bobcats early. The Bobcats would battle back during the set until the point the match was tied at 12 each.
West Virginia State would apply more pressure and would never trail for the rest of the set winning the first set 25 to 16. The Bobcats would come out strong in the second set coming out to a 4 to 1 lead.
But, the Yellow Jackets would battle back and would go on a 10 to 2 run that would put them up 11 to 6. West Virginia State would never trail again and would take the second set 25 to 10. In the third set, both teams would go back and forth and in the middle of the set would be 14 to 12.
The Yellow Jackets would put another run together and would win the third set 25 to 16 and would win the match in a 3 game sweep.
The Bobcats leaders in statistics would be Sterenberg with 6 kills, Altemus with 6 kills and 1 block, Pratt wit 3 kills and 2 blocks and Edwyna Lainez with 2 kills and 1 ace.
“It’s a learning experience for us and we will bounce back from this and be ready to take on Salem on Sunday,” Pratt said about bouncing back from the losses.
The Bobcats will be back in action on the road against Salem University on Sunday, the 20th at 1:00 p.m.
