Frostburg Volleyball Wins First MEC Game
The Frostburg State University Volleyball team would host Fairmont State on Tuesday, Oct. 8th in an MEC conference match.
Fairmont State would come out hot in the first set leading Frostburg to a 21 to 10 score and then closed the set, winning 25 to 19.
Frostburg would not lose another set and would win 3 sets straight. Each set was very competitive and could have gone either way. Frostburg found themselves leading in the middle of the set 16 to 12, and would not trail again winning the set 25 to 19. In the third set, the Falcons would lead 6 to 3 but the Bobcats would put together a 10 to 3 stretch that would put them up the lead 17 to 12. Fairmont would come back to be behind by 1, but the Bobcats would put together a run to win the third set 25 to 20. In the fourth set, the Falcons and Bobcats would go back and forth until an 8 to 2 run by Frostburg put them up 17 to 12. The Bobcats would keep their foot on the gas pedal winning the set 25 to 21 and winning the match 3 to 1.
The Bobcats leading players in statistics were Jackie Sterenberg with 19 kills, Haley Altemus had 12 kills and 2 blocks, and Raven Pratt had 7 kills and 2 blocks.
“I think we’re doing a lot better this season especially considering we’re playing better teams,” Cori Smothers, a senior captain stated.
“I would say our record started out better and that was really exciting winning our first Division 2 game,” senior captain Katie Lough mentioned of their first conference win.
Frostburg goes on a 10 game break before returning to court on Friday, Oct. 18th.
