Frostburg Women’s Basketball Clinches Playoff Spot

For the second straight year, the Bobcat women’s basketball team secured a playoff spot after their eight point win against Southern Virginia this past Wednesday, Feb. 14.

The win pushed them to 7-10 in CAC play and 11-12 overall.

In the 71-63 win, sophomore Victoria Diggs poured in 22 points displaying why she’s the third leading scorer in the CAC. Sophomore Sidney Stotler scored 11 points and had seven rebounds while first year Kayla Wilson had 10 points. Junior Amber Downey led the Bobcats in rebounds with nine.

Wilson was Frostburg State University’s female athlete of the week this past week.

The Bobcat defense held Southern Virginia to just one three-pointer and eight made free throws. Frostburg outscored their opponents 36-30 in the second half of the game after leading 35-33 going into halftime.

On Saturday Feb. 17, the Bobcats moved to 8-10 in CAC play and 12-13 overall with their home win against Wesley, 77-71.

The Bobcats’ largest lead came in the third quarter as they led by 31 points.

The Bobcats converted all of their free-throws in the first half and made seven of the eight free throws they had in the second half. Diggs led the Bobcats making five out of six.

Junior Megan Kelly put away two three-pointers, while Diggs led the team with 14 points.

Frostburg will travel to play the third overall team in the CAC Tournament next Tuesday.
