FSU Beats Georgian Court to Remain Undefeated
Frostburg State University (FSU) men’s lacrosse toppled Georgian Court University on Thursday, March 5 by a score of 14-6 to improve to 4-0 on the season. This is FSU’s best start since 2016 when the team started the season 11-0
Thursday’s game was one that was never really in doubt. From the opening face-off, FSU seemed determined to let Lions know they weren’t in the Bobcat’s league. While the game was tied 1-1 with just under 7 minutes to play in the first quarter, the Bobcats erupted for four unanswered goals to close out the quarter. The scoring spree was highlighted by an opening quarter hat trick from senior attack Mike Sipes.
The Bobcat’s defense would carry them through the first half. They allowed only one more goal and led Georgian Court 16-6 in shots on goal in the first half. FSU led 8-2 going into the intermission.
After a back and forth third quarter where each team scored twice, the Lions closed the scoring gap to 10-5 after a goal from Devin Bell with 12:32 to play in the game. FSU ended the game on a 4-1 scoring run to bring the final score to 14-6.
Thursday’s game was an overall dominant effort for FSU. They led 57-33 in total shots and allowed only 18 shots on goal for the game. The Bobcats shared the ball well, getting 10 assists on their 14 goals. This resulted in three players scoring at least three goals. Sophomore midfielder, Jake Bowman was especially efficient, scoring his three goals on only six shots while adding an assist.
The Bobcats will look to carry the momentum of Thursday’s game into next week’s game against Florida Southern. The Moccasins should prove to be FSU’s toughest test of the season thus far, as they boast a top-25 national ranking. This will be the first of many top 25 opponents the Bobcats will face this year so this game will be a good measure of just how good this team is. The game against Florida Southern is on March 12 at John’s Hopkins University, with the opening face-off set for 7 p.m.
