FSU Closes Lane Center & Ort Library Amid COVID-19

As part of Frostburg State University’s attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the institution announced in a campus-wide email its decision to close the Lane University Center and the Lewis J. Ort Library until further notice.

The campus transitioned all coursework online for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. The March 19th email from FSU President Ron Nowaczyk urged students to stay home if possible but would work with students who need the resources the University has to offer.

Faculty, staff, and students remaining on-campus can take advantage of Chesapeake Dining Hall’s “grab and go” food service. Meetings or events previously arranged with 10 or fewer people can still use the Manicur Assembly Hall on the first floor of the Lane University Center which has been set to accommodate social distancing and a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. The email also notes Bill Mandicott, the Assistant Vice President of Student and Community Involvement, is collaborating with his team to create “learning services through online experiences” which are “intended to continue developing leadership connections, making engagement opportunities to add Bobcat memories, and creating opportunities to reach out to other Bobcats.” Any questions about the Lane University Center should be directed to Allen Flanagan, Lane’s director, at raflanagan@frostburg.edu.

The Lewis J. Ort Library joined all libraries in the Allegany County Library System in closing until further notice. Access to information assistance and research databases are available online. Individuals can email libref@frostburg.edu for virtual help.

The computers in CCIT room 133 are accessible. The classroom has been rearranged to accommodate social distancing requirements.
