FSU Men’s Soccer Edges Wesley in Conference Opener

The Bobcats fell behind early as Wesley slipped a shot past freshman goalkeeper Juan Bofill.

Frostburg scored two unanswered goals to seal their first CAC victory.

Sophomore Josh McRobie found the back of the net after a yellow card to Wesley’s Christian Chavez gave the Bobcats a penalty kick. McRobie stepped to the spot and knocked the game-tying goal past Wesley’s goalkeeper Kyle Springsteen.

Junior Christian Deynes had an opportunity on goal to send the Bobcats ahead, but the teams went into half both at one.

In the 59th minute, McRobie had another opportunity to put away a penalty kick, but his attempt was blocked by Springsteen.

Senior Johnathan Lippitt scored the game winning goal after a failed clearing attempt by the Wolverines. It was Lippitt’s first goal of the 2017 season.

The Bobcats ended the match with 19 shots with six on frame.

McRobie led with five shots, followed by senior Rodrigo Valenzeula with three, sophomore Matt Morris with two and Lippitt with one.

Frostburg returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Bobcat Stadium when they will face Shenandoah at 7 p.m.
