FSU Softball Eliminated from CAC Tournament

Frostburg State University’s (FSU) Women’s Softball team  earned a berth in the CAC tournament, but they were eliminated. The lady Bobcats were the third seed in the tournament and thry were expected to go far. Going into the tournament, the team had a record of 16-9. They came into the tournament strong, coming off two decisive wins over Penn State Harrisburg. Those two wins were played in a double header with the first game being a blow out.

In five innings the Bobcats put up 14 runs and held Penn State Harrisburg Lions to just 3 runs. Five homeruns were hit in that game by the Bobcats, with eight runs being scored in the first inning alone. This dominant showing displayed the team’s offensive power. The second game of the double header was the opposite of the first. The lady Bobcats won a 4-3 nail biter. While the second game wasn’t a dominant showing like the first one, it shows that the team has the grit to pull out tough wins

In the first game of their tournament, the lady Bobcats were defeated by the second seed Salisbury Sea Gulls 10-3. The team needed to win game two against Mary Washington to survive. Three runs in the fifth inning gave the lady Bobcats are 3-2 lead and an eventual victory. Renay Aubel hit a homerun to bring home Bailey Ellsworth and Hannah Tavik.

The lady Bobcats moved on to play the second seed Salisbury Sea Gulls for a second time. The Sea Gulls, who came into the game with a 33-2 record, defeated the lady Bobcats comfortably by a score of  11-6.

FSU kept the game within reach until the last inning. FSU was unable to bridge the gap. They fought hard, however, as senior Caitlin Lovend smashed a three run homer to put the game  within three runs. They were unable to score more, and Salisbury took the win.

The Sea Gulls would go to play Christopher Newport in the CAC Championship game. where The Sea Gulls would lose 3-2 after a Christopher Newport walk-off homerun.

The lady Bobcats have four games remaining in the season. They will travel to Hood for a 3:00 game on Wednesday, April 23. On April 26, FSU will host Dickinson for a double header beginning at 1:00.

 

The lady Bobcats will play their next game of the tournament against the loser of the Salisbury and Christopher Newport matchup. The game will be played on April 18 at noon.
