FSU Student Petition Calls For a New Mascot
Big changes may be coming this way at Frostburg State University. On March 31st, a statement was released to The Bottom Line regarding a proposal submitted to administration by multiple members of the student body. The proposal, not yet approved, suggests a change of the iconic bobcat mascot to a more local, frequently seen creature- The Pigeon.
According to the proposal, the pigeon is believed to represent FSU students because, “against common belief, pigeons are considered one of the most intelligent birds on the planet. We believe that this fact accurately represents the intelligence of the Frostburg State University population.”
Attached to this brief yet succinct proposal were sketched ideas for a new FSU logo, multiple examples of a new Frostburg State Pigeon statue to replace the current Bobcat statue outside of Compton Science Center, and a petition sheet filled with signatures supporting this new mascot idea.
Unfortunately, no further information has been released to The Bottom Line regarding this action, and those who submitted this proposal have not been publicly announced.
