As the most anticipated event of Homecoming week, the Bobcats played Urbana and earned their fourth-straight win and sixth-consecutive Homecoming win. Frostburg is now 4-1 in Mountain East Conference play.

In the 1st half, the Bobcats utilized the legs of junior running back Gavin Lavat and graduate quarterback Will Brunson, only passing the ball 5 times on a 14 play drive to start the game. To top the drive off,  Brunson scored on a quarterback sneak to put his team up 7 after junior kicker Jeremy Harrison’s extra point attempt. After that score on the 1st drive of the game, it would take another quarter and a half for another. Most of the game involved suffocating defenses on both sides. The next 3 drives of both teams would end in a punt.

FSU started off the 2nd quarter with possession, and for a while, had a solid drive but a delay of game penalty and a negative run derailed the potential of that drive. The FSU defense continued to pull the weight, not allowing Urbana into their territory at all in the 2nd quarter. The half ended 7-0 Frostburg.

Urbana had possession at the start of the 3rd quarter, and FSU continued a strong defensive performance, forcing a punt in 2 minutes. Later in the quarter, senior defensive back Michael Bell intercepted a pass, and returned it for 24 yards, putting the offense in great field position. 2 plays later, Brunson connected with junior wide receiver Lincoln Ikwubuo on a 17-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0. Early in the 4th quarter FSU extended their lead to 17 points when  Harrison kicked a 28-yard field goal, avenging a miss earlier in the game. On Urbana’s next possession, the Frostburg defense once again forced a punt, and an illegal blocking penalty put FSU in great field position. A 31-yard reception on 4th down by Ikwubuo set up Lavat for a 2 yard run into the end zone. By this time, Frostburg is comfortably ahead 24-0. With 7 minutes left, Urbana would have to score 4 times to at least tie the game. Urbana ended up getting in the end zone twice in the waning minutes of the game making the score 24-16 FSU. This would be the final score to end the game.

Among the offensive leaders for FSU were Brunson in passing, Lavat in rushing, and Ikwubuo in receiving. The senior trio of defensive line Walter Riley, linebacker Matt Meier, and defensive back Vincent Persichetti led the Bobcats defensively. Riley finished the game with 8 tackles and a tackle for loss, while both Meier and Persichetti finished with 7 tackles apiece.

Frostburg’s next game is a road contest against West Virginia Wesleyan. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12th.
