FSU Tennis Faces Tough Competition in Salem

On Tuesday April 6, the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams hosted the Salem University Tigers. 

It’s nearing the midway point of the season for FSU tennis, and the Bobcats record for both Men and Women have dropped to 1-4 after a rough outing on Tuesday evening.

There were nine competitions for both Men and Women teams. Six singles tennis matches and three doubles. 

Women’s Singles Matches

For the women’s singles matches; Immanuella Odiong was defeated 6-0, 6-0, Rabiatu Ladan was defeated 6-0, 6-1, Madison Toothman was defeated 6-0, 6-0, Elizabeth Hixon was defeated 6-0, 6-1. Jen Dieterle and Shea Przyweiczerski were able to gain two wins for FSU by default. 

Women’s Doubles Matches

In the women’s doubles matches, Odiong was paired with Pryzwieczerski, and fell 6-0. Elizabeth Hixon was paired with Rabiatu Ladan, and was defeated 6-1. Madison Toothman along with Cherise Jenkins were able to pick up the win by default.

The Women overall were defeated 5-2.


Men’s Singles Matches

Competing in the singles matches for men were Origen Grear who was defeated 6-1 in both matches, Geoffrey Goldring who was defeated 6-0 and 6-1, Mason Hordubay who was defeated 6-0 and 6-2, Tim Goldring who was defeated 6-2 and 6-1, Ryan Tomasic defeated 6-0 and 6-1, and Ethan Vogel defeated 6-0 both matches.


Men’s Doubles Matches

The pairings for the doubles matches were Grear along with Geoffrey Goldring, Hordubay with Tim Goldring, and Tomasic paired with Von Hagel. Grear and Goldring were defeated 6-2. Hordubay and Goldring were defeated 6-2. Finally, Tomasic and Von Hagel were defeated 6-1.

The Men overall were defeated 7-0.

 

On Sunday April 11, the FSU Men’s tennis team hosted the Mount Aloysius Mounties. The Bobcats were able to tighten up their game quickly because unlike the prior Tuesday, there was much more of a rebuttal to the wins of their opposition. 

Singles Matches

In the singles matches on Sunday, Grear and Tim Goldring were two players able to get the win for Frostburg. Geoffrey Goldring was defeated in both matches 6-1, Hordubay was defeated in a very close match up that went three games. The final score of the last game was 7-6. Tomasic was defeated 6-3 and 6-4. Finally, Ben Williams was defeated in three games. The final game resulting in him being defeated 6-3.

Doubles Matches

In the doubles competition, FSU was able to take two out of three. Grear and Goldring won 6-2. Hordubay and Goldring won 6-3. Tomasic and Von Hagel were defeated 6-3.

 

The Bobcats Tennis teams’ next competition will be on Wednesday April 14 against Fairmont State. The matches will start at 3 P.M.
