Geography Department Represents FSU at AAG
The Department of Geography at Frostburg State University was well-represented at the 30th annual American Association of Geographer’s national conference in Washington D.C. held April 3rd-7th, 2019. A contingency of 18 students and faculty traveled to the once yearly meeting of professional geographers. The group did not simply attend the meeting; but, rather presented several papers and posters on topics ranging from sea level rising in New York City, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles on Frostburg’s campus, and issues related to Appalachian culture in Western Maryland.
Poster presenters included undergraduates Michala Garrison, Anna Mattero, Ben Oelke, and Morgan Alban, and faculty members Dr. William Wetherholt and Tracy Edwards.
Paper presenters included undergraduate Cassie Conklin, and faculty members Dr. James Saku, Dr. Richard Russo, Dr. Jonathon Flood, and Dr. Mathew Ramspott.
In addition to presenting scholarly research, the attendees featured two students in the World Geography Bowl, a trivia competition held at each yearly meeting. After ten rounds of group and individual questions, the Mid-Atlantic Regional team won.
The six person group featured students from The George Washington University, Salisbury University, and Frostburg State University students Alexander Corbin and Cassie Conklin.
