Gladden Scores In Field Hockey Loss
Frostburg Field Hockey has been on the road this past week. On Friday, Sept. 13th, the Bobcats faced off against the Lindenwood Lions in St. Charles, Missouri.
Frostburg senior, Logan Gladden, scored for the Bobcats in the first half of the game. Junior Sam Coffey assisted Gladden to score the only goal for the Bobcats. Gladden is currently leading the team in the number of goals scored.
First-year Taylor Henderson and sophomore Rylee Johnson also played an aggressive offensive game with both athletes taking a shot at the goal.
Lindenwood maintained ahead of Frostburg starting early in the first half. Less than seven minutes into the game, the Lions, Taylor Sullivan, scored against the Bobcats. Later on, Annick Giebels and Bridget Hoogendijk also scored less than three minutes apart from each other. Lindenwood greatly led Frostburg in shots with a total of 19. Frostburg ended the game with only three shots.
The Bobcats played a steady defensive game for the second half. The Lions did not score for the remainder of the time. Frostburg senior goalkeeper Sierra Smizer stayed strong through her entire 60 minutes of game time as she halted the Lions with a total of 8 saves.
The game would come to end with a final score of 3-1 and a loss for the Bobcats. After defeating Frostburg, Lindenwood is currently standing with a 2-1 record so far this 2019 season. Frostburg’s field hockey currently has a 0-4 overall record. The Bobcats and Lions will meet again when the Lions travel to Frostburg on the weekend of Sept. 28th.
The Bobcats will play Bellarmine University Knights on Sunday, Sept. 15th. Afterward, they will return home to face off against Coker University Cobras on Septemeber 21st at 5:00.
