Kenner Drills Late Three to Give FSU 68-65 Win Over Concord

Frostburg State University (FSU) took on the Concord University Mountain Lions this past Thursday, Feb. 6th in what proved to be a thrilling matchup. FSU won the nail-bitter thanks to some late-game heroics from senior guard Terry Kenner who channeled his inner Black Mamba and drilled a corner three in the game’s final moments to give the Bobcats a 68-65 win, ending the Bobcat’s three-game losing streak.

The teams came into the game with identical 7-13 records and appeared to be evenly matched from the game’s onset. Thursday’s game featured 14 lead changes and seven ties had the makings of an instant classic with palpable excitement from the home crowd from the opening tip to the eventual dramatic conclusion. FSU got great contributions from several key players with four Bobcats ending the night with double-digit scoring. The Bobcats were led by senior guard Daniel Alexander who had 15 points to go along with a game-high 7 assists.

After the game, Alexander pointed to FSU’s mental toughness as the difference in the win. “The biggest factor to our win was the desire to win. Every player in the locker room was mentally drained because of the amounts of effort, hustle and will it ended up taking to get the win,” he said.

Excitement for this game, in particular, could be felt even before the opening tip. This game marked FSU’s first back in Bobcat Arena after months of renovations that began back in August, forcing the Bobcats to play off-site home games leading up to Thursday’s home opener.

Freshly equipped with a brand new floor and new bleachers, Alexander said it was impossible not to take note of the energy that was present in the arena, “It felt great being back on our home court. We’ve been waiting a long time for this game and we knew the crowd will finally be on our side, so we kept feeding off the crowds energy. The energy was electric, after making plays you hear it from them and it’s just music to our ears when the gym is hype for us.”

The Bobcats will look to carry the momentum from Thursday’s big win into their next two games which will be played at Bobcat Arena on Saturday and 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. respectively.
